This weekend my team had the pleasure of participating in the worship and ministry of a church on Samar, the island next to our own. Planning our trip and involvement for this weekend was hard. Our plans were vague, but God shows up in the vague plans an open and bold spirit makes.

We had just arrived at our destination and were about to drive to food ministry. The pastor who was leading this operation asked us to share a bible story when we got there. We had already assigned jobs and sharing a bible story wasn’t one of them! I didn’t know what it was going to look like when we pulled over and all of us jumped out of the van. This was it. As we started mingling with the kids and moving to the front of the room and looking at each other I found myself stepping forward and retelling a story our team had recently studied. As I spoke, the teammates closest to me jumped in, acting out fisherman and puffer fish. The kids grinned and laughed as God gave me the words to share how Jesus works good through the most difficult and unexpected situations and when you have the courage to be bold and open.

I found fun, camaraderie, and so many opportunities to worship this weekend. I worshipped as my teammates performed some of their favorite songs a cappella in church, as I trekked to and swam beneath a stunning waterfall, as the Sunday class I helped teach prayed, and as I watched God’s creation flash by on the long drive home.
