Dear Mama,

From your daughter across the world:

Do you remember when I was a child and we would pray every night before we went to bed? Emily and I would take turns? Do you know I still do that every night and I have since I was a child? You taught me how to pray. Mom, do you remember when we would play dress up and house and we would say “mama! You’re the prettiest woman alive!” Do you know that’s still true? Mama, do you remember when I was 11 and you called me out of school and took me out to get makeup for the first time? Those little dates we had meant more to me than you would ever know. Our bond is so close because of that!  Mom, do you remember when I was in 6th grade and all I wanted to do was be with my friends? You let me and made me realize how much I actually appreciate being home with all my family haha. Mama, do you remember when I was 13 and I was the sassiest girl alive? Your patience and peace with me would make me cry at night because I knew you did not want to have patience and peace in that season of life. in those moments, you were the strongest woman alive, and that is still so true. Mama, Do you remember when I was 14 and i didn’t have many friends? You have remained the bestest friend I’ll ever have. Do you remember when I was 15 and I gave my life to Christ? Without your influence of Christ growing up, I would not be the woman I am. Thank you for being such a strong Christian. Mama, Do you remember when I was 17 and I was so heartbroken it was funny? You reminded me of the eternal love and comfort that is in Christ and you showed me what it means to put all my reliance on Christ. Mama, do you remember when I was 18 and I left everything I’ve ever know to preach the gospel to the world, and I cried for days on end? Your voice brought me comfort.

And in the moments when I’m across the world crying because I miss home, I’m reminded of the woman who taught me to pray. I’m reminded of the prettiest woman alive, I’m reminded of the woman who took me out on mother-daughter dates just because she loves me. I’m reminded of just how much I love home. I’m reminded of the strongest woman alive. I’m reminded of my bestest friend ever. I’m reminded of sister/ mother in Christ. I’m reminded of my broken heart mender. Mama, from across the world, thank you for loving me with every piece of your heart from the beginning, and choosing Christ since day 1. A mother is always a special person, but there is something so special about my mama!
