“Brake!” you yell, as space decreases between you and the car in front of you. Your heart is pounding and you feel like you’re about to face death, and your friend doesn’t seem to be paying attention to traffic around them. The car ends up coming to a stop a few feet behind the bumper of the car in front of you. As you look at your friend they look back at you and ask, “What?” You stare back at them like they’re trying to kill you, and they proceed, “You’ve seen me drive before; you’ve seen me in this exact situation before. Don’t you know by now that I have this under control? Didn’t you know I was braking before you even shouted? Don’t you trust me?”
This is what it can feel like when you let Jesus take control: He’s in the driver’s seat having everything under control, but from your position it looks like you’re heading straight for a disastrous event. You know that God takes care of you and takes you right where you’re supposed to be, but in that moment you forget who our God is, what he’s done, and his love for us.
I forget too; time seems to go by too fast, and I’ll start to question if he’ll provide. God takes the “wrong” turn and I ask him where he’s going, like he doesn’t know the way. I let worry get the best of me, even though I know God is always victorious over any situation before it’s over. I forget about all the times he’s provided before, and I forget about the times he’s taken me a different route so I can see something different and beautiful.
So, I encourage you and myself to trust God as he drives the car. Set reminders for yourself about who our God is and what he’s done to help in those times of worry. Give God full control and your life will never be boring.
