This is just a short story I wanted to share to explain how God teaches us things in the weirdest ways. The day before my team flew out of Atlanta, I decided to hand wash some laundry at training camp. I thought I was so smart to get ahead of the game and use some free time to deal with my dirty laundry. However, the sun wasn’t out much that day, so by the next morning when I had to pack everything up, my clothes were no where near dry. And I had A LOT of laundry. I called my mom in tears, asking what to do. I didn’t want to put wet laundry in my suitcase and have it weigh over the 50 pound limit (plus potentially stink up all my clean clothes). Additionally, I was dreading having to rewash everything once we got to Swaziland. My mom told me to just pack it up in a separate bag and carry it with me and to lay it out on top of my suitcase in the airport to dry. So that’s what I did. In Atlanta, my team had to wait several hours before our flight would leave. There’s an atrium in the Atlanta airport so I laid out my laundry on the ground of the Atlanta airport beneath the warm sun and hoped for the best. Another girl and I prayed over my clothes, silly as it may have seemed, to ask God to answer this small request. People made comments or chuckled as they walked by my array of laundry laid out on the airport floor, and I just laughed at the absurdity of it. In the end, almost all my clothes dried and I was able to pack them in my suitcase. God was already showing me that sometimes things don’t go according to plan (especially when in Africa), but that he is always in control and is always ready and willing to help his children. Something as simple as drying my clothes made me more aware of God’s presence and power in every aspect of life. God is good—so good that he even took care of my laundry.
