I am finishing my last week here and I won’t lie, it’s no where near easy. I’ve only been here three and half weeks and I have fallen in love with the kids here. And especially this island! I have been walking through my goodbyes to each and everything and one.
Ometepe,
You are
My oasis of peace
My island fit for a princess
My healing place
You are
Where I found my voice
Where I could hear God again
Where I learned to trust again
Ometepe,
I will love you, cherish you, and remember you!
Cicrin,
You will always hold a weird and very VERY special place in my heart. Weird because I got nothing of what I expected from you! But what I did receive and learn here was exactly what I needed. And you were waiting here for me!
To my kiddo buddies,
Duñia, I think I learned the most from you. You being just like me when I was a kid and being totally yourself and wild the whole time we were together. You let me be me whenever I was with you and I am going to miss you calling me the weirdest names and screaming all the lyrics to Moana and frozen with you! And I hope you never ever change! You are so precious to me!
Annaduris, you will certainly miss your sass! You putting on this exterior of tough but when we were alone you told how much you love and will miss me. You got spunk kid! And I love spunk!
Celeste, you were such a little mom to your sisters. So wise beyond your short 9 years but you still had no problem being a kid! I will miss talking to you and discussing if Moana or Frozen was better! You my little island princess!
Julieta, you are the coolest 14 year I’ve met! So mature and talented! I think you speak better English than I do but I’ll never forget our long conversations and the time we prayed and cried together! I love you girly!
Noel, you little weirdo you! Man I love you kid! You are just a little bundle of goofy! You love our dance parties and teasing each other! You love to push my buttons but I can’t help but have fun with you! I love you Noel!
Fredi, you are one of the kindest little dudes! Whenever you see some of the kids picking on me, you just come on over and tell me I’m beautiful! You have a light and kindness to you that I hope you never lose! Keep being you always!
I could go on and on about each and every child and person I’ve met on this island and here at Cicrin, but there’s only so much I can type ;).
So as I say good bye to Ometepe, Nicaragua, I will never forget all that I learned and grew in during my time here!
Thank you Ometepe! Te quiero!
