At first fundraising was extremely overwhelming. “How in the world am I going to ask people for money?” It feels so weird getting in touch with people that haven’t talked to in a while or don’t even know to pour out my life story and ask them for money. AWKWARD! But I prayed about it. Asking for a easier more comfortable way to raise money.
So I use my tools and resources and I think, “what am I good at making that I can sell that made enough sense that people would be willing to buy oh and it needs to be done in less than two weeks” Ugh! And of Course I could have made t-shirts, accessories, keychain, and a bunch of other crafts but that would require a lot of time I didn’t have, considering half of my goal was required to be reached in less than two weeks.
I search and think ideas and finally while heading to my small group meeting he speaks to me, “use your talent I gave you, use your network from your artistry you built your entire life, now is the time!” I shout with excitement and called one of my best friends and wonderful artist Jordyn Flowe. Call her to tell her to write it down and prepare some pieces, I’m putting on an Art Show! “
I pull over to write out my vision as all the ideas rush through my head. “It’s gotta be a venue with a dance floor or stage because I want dancing, then there needs to be an area for art to be displayed and sold, I need at least one mic, and a couple speakers and it’d be great if we could get some lighting!” So where most would be stunned by having to find a venue for free I knew exactly the place. Park South YMCA my old job AKA my second family.
I’m so grateful to be able to say, a day later I have 2 fundraising events taking place this month. Arts-Giving Showcase November 16 & 23, 2018 Park South YMCA 2500 Romine Dallas, TX @7pm-10pm there will be snacks music, dance, art, and other fun activities to interact and donate.
