Welcome to my World Race Blog!

If you are reading this, you are probably one of the many friends and family that I shared my link with so you probably already know that my name is Tenaya Hazen and that I am 25 years old.  You may or may not have known that my middle name is Sapphire or that I was born in Alaska.

Synopsis of me: I am the eldest of three. My parents live in GA. I was homeschooled till high school. I was raised in the church, and I have attended services from almost every denomination over the years. I have done quite a bit of traveling through study abroad, missions, and some for fun! I coach gymnastics for a living, but it’s not really a job. I’ve been coaching for over 9 years now and I wouldn’t change a minute of it. I am a little bit of an adrenaline junkie and participate in a large variety of athletic activities including but not limited to skydiving, paragliding, surfing, flying trapeze, snowboarding, acro, and dancing.

This blog is your connection to me from August 2019 to June 2020. During that time I will be on the World Race, which is an 11 month long mission trip that goes to a different country each month.

My route goes to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina.

This trip is something that had been on my heart for almost 7 years. Since I was in college and drowning in debt from student loans, cars, computers, and medical bills. During that time, I found this trip and I knew in my heart that it was something I wanted to strive towards. However, since the trip is all volunteer work where I basically have to pay for a year of my life upfront it never seemed remotely possible. It’s a thought I have revisited often but never pursued. Until now.

In June 2018 I paid my last student loan. My car is paid off, my medical debt is gone, and by the grace of God I am currently living debt-free. Shortly after that last payment I began once again considering the World Race. However, I never dreamed that it would be this upcoming year. Until I started listening to God, and I realized that once again how much is possible when you turn everything over to him.

Am I still nervous? Yes. Do l think this is crazy? Yes. Am I going to put everything I have into preparing for next year? Absolutely.

The total cost of the trip is $19,200.   That is where you guys come in. I am very independent, and I do a lot on my own. And honestly, it’s difficult to even imagine raising this much. Every part of me just wants to work 15 hr days and sell a kidney or some other drastic measure. But part of this process is allowing the participants to put down their pride and rely on their community and God to help them get there.

There a large variety of ways you can help.

You can make a large one-time donation.

You can pick an amount to support monthly.

You can tell your friends and family who might consider donating.

You can add me and the process of raising support to your prayer list.

You can follow this blog and support me through encouragement. J
