The main question I have gotten lately is “Why world race? And why not college?” That’s a pretty solid question and a super long one to answer. So I would like to give you more info and put some more meaning behind this trip for you.
A year ago I was thriving on the fact that I was going into my senior year and that meant I was about to get out of here. I had every intention of going to college and I was overjoyed to begin a journey to my future. I never found much purpose in high school and I’ve had senioritis for far too long. However like anyone else I wasn’t sure what I wanted to major in or which college I wanted to attend. It was at this point I began searching. I wanted something different, something new, and something unique to me. Colleges just weren’t that thing for me, not yet anyways. I would go on college visits and be bored out of my mind. They all looked the same and had that one average score that was supposed to impress me with how incredible their school is. Whoa exciting… so I flipped my thinking. I watched as friends began to choose schools and life paths ,and I listened to older friends as they told me my options.
It didn’t hit me until one day I heard “gap year” and it was like suddenly the world had spun super fast and I knew it was for me. When this happened my prayers began to change and grow stronger. I quickly drove home, with tears in my eyes because I was so excited, and began my research. I came across The World Race multiple times and I remembered “oh yeah I follow them on IG, they are pretty neat”. One thing lead to the next and oh hey I’M GOING ON THIS CRAZY COOL ADVENTURE!
So yes that is how I came to choosing The World Race, but the question still remains as to why?
These past two years have been a roller coaster of new adventures and experiences which had its highs and lows for sure. But it has been the most rewarding experience as I’ve really begun to become Jesus’s friend. Not just a believer or a christian, but a follower of christ, a child of God, and developed an eternal friendship with Christ.
I believe we are all here for a purpose and that purpose is special just to you. Christ made us each unique and different in order to further his kingdom. No, you do not have to be a missionary, pastor, or youth group leader in order to fulfill your purpose. You simply have to say yes before you know the question. Say yes to the unknown and follow where Our Father calls us. For me that means going into ministry through traveling and making him known.
So I am doing The World Race to LOVE. I am living out of a backpack to have FAITH. I am leaving my comfort behind to show GRACE to others. I am entering into this FEARLESS because God already knows what’s ahead and he’s already handled it. I am leaving to bring HOPE to those who have none. I am making this DREAM a reality because I am ENOUGH, my father is ALIVE, He is REAL, and He is MOVING!
