First squad photo in the San Fransisco Airport
What a crazy week it has been. Full of so many emotions and overwhelmingly full of God’s goodness and love. This past week was our final debrief as the 2019 Unscripted squad. Where has this year gone? We spent time reflecting on our year. It was incredible to see all the lessons we learned; individually and as a squad. Guys, God is so, so good ALL the time. There should never be a moment when we doubt God’s goodness. If we are then we are not looking at the work of God. This year has been absolutely amazing. It was full of bucket list items being checked off, loving all of God’s people, and most of all learning more of who God has made us to be.
Tonight, while I was journaling this one word would not go away. So I submitted the word to God. The word… FINISHED. Now if you know me, one thing you know to be true is that I do not like endings. When things come to an end (school, summer, anything to do with fun) I get a little depressed. I want the fun to keep going. Why put an end to the fun and good things that are going on. But God said, “Finished.”
Finished in Hebrew is Kalah and/ or Shalam. Kalah means to accomplish, cease, consume, determine, end, finish, be complete, to be at an end.
“the heavens and earth were finished” “Thus all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting was finished” “Moses had finished writing the words” “Solomon built the house and finished it.”It is used 225 times in the Old Testament.
Shalam means to be in a covenant of peace, be at peace, to be complete, be sound, to make an end of, to be safe. This word is found all over the commandments given to the people from Moses. It is all about making and creating peace when someone has been wronged. At times even going above and beyond (to the extremes) to make right. To bring peace.
The Greek word for finished is Teleo. Teleo means to bring to a close, to finish, to end, to perform, execute, complete, fulfill, (so that the thing done corresponds to what has been said), to carry out the contents of a command.
“It is finished.”I was really struggling with using the word finished to describe my current state of the race. I always thought that it was sad when things finished. But now, there is no better word to use. The race is finished. We accomplished 11 months. We can walk in a covenant of peace. And we fulfilled His commandment.
“And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.” Mark 16:15When finished is used throughout the Bible it leads to the more God has.
Yes, the race is finished but we are stepping into the MORE He is calling each and every one of us into.
When a season that you have loved is coming to an end, rejoice. Rejoice for what is to come. I promise there will be more. Good things have to come to an end so we can step into even better things!
