Words could never describe this family to the full extent of who they truly are. To make things interesting I will share a bit of how they would like to be perceived by others, how the husband and wife perceive one another, and also how they perceive God through a fun little game that we racers love to play to get to know one another on a deeper and more personal level.

SUPARA: Purple, fish, flower.

Color: how she wants to be perceived by others, or how she views yourself.

Purple. The color purple reminds Supara of flowers. It’s a happy color. It makes her feel safe and comfortable. It’s the feeling of being calm in the midst of chaos. The color purple reminds her of the Holy Spirit.

Animal: how she views her husband.

Fish. Supara knows Aslan to be quiet, clean, and patient. He is capable of receiving help and acts of service. He will surprise you! He has a silly side and a great sense of humor. He loves to make her laugh.

Element: how she views God.

Flower. She can see them everywhere, without limitations. They bring her joy, and exuberant smiles. She wants to be able to talk with them everyday. She believes their encouragement toward one another will allow them to grow. Life without flowers would feel dead and meaningless. It would leave Supara feeling empty. She could never imagine a life without flowers.

ASLAN: Green, lion, snowy mountain.

Color: how he wants to be perceived by others, or how he views yourself.

Green. The color green makes Aslan feel happy. It makes him feel alive and refreshed. Green represents new growth and new life.

Animal: how he views her husband.

Lion. Aslan knows Supara to take care of her pride. He sees that they represent many characteristics. They are loving, angry, and humble. Lions are like strong heroes.

Element: how he views God.

Snowy Mountains. The mountains give him and his spirit rest. They can always take him higher. They resemble a voice that echos back. If he could never see them again he would question why.

They firmly believe all the gracious gifts of their country are simply that, they are gifts from God. It’s a gift from God to live in a land that is rich in resources. Azerbaijan prospers because of its access to oil, petrol, gold, beautiful landscapes, thriving economy and people who deeply care for their nation and their people.

This family radiates hospitality, something I respect and value more than most character traits. Hospitality is such a huge thing I have found value in over the years. This is a simple way to love others, be caring, extend an open hand and heart to anyone. Hospitality can easily be taken advantage of but it is worth the risk, every time. This family purchased the home we are staying in 4 years ago with the intention of having an open door policy. Arms spread wide, mimicking the Fathers heart for all people who are in need. They’ve hosted racer before but being here and experiencing their love has been abundantly life giving. Their house is filled with the Holy Spirit. Their children are spunky, rambunctious and fiercely loved. Inci (pronounced en-ge) is about to turn 5 years old and Camal (pronounced ja-mal) is 11 years old. They live in a three bedroom house where the kids share a room in order to hosts others in bunkbeds, because that’s a party waiting to happen. The more the merrier. Supara cooks every meal from scratch and the smells that come from her kitchen are an explicit invitation to take a seat at the table that always has room for one more. This woman is the kindest servant. She refuses help to do the dishes unless you want to dry. This home is oozing love, laughter, and generosity. They host a fellowship gathering in their home every Sunday for the local believers. They give back to the community and make sure people have the Word of God in their hands.

We would love to bless them after our short stay with whatever amount of money we can pull together. Every other month they have to have the pipes repaired, normal home maintenance expenses, in addition to their mortgage, and raising two beautiful children. They would never ask for a hand out, in fact, I know they know how blessed they are. They love to love others so well, and it is our turn to love them well back.
