After living out of a book bag for over 8 months I now feel semi qualified to write a packing blog. Packing was probably one of the most intimidating things while preparing for the race. I didn’t even know how to set up my tent and look how far I’ve come. This is not a comprehensive packing list but just a few items that have been some of my best purchases!!
Pali Hawaii [Jesus sandals]
- I’ve worn these shoes probably every single day. They are my shower shoes my dress up shoes and just about everything else

Dr. Bronners all in one lavender soap
- this bar of soap is amazing. You can use it in the shower or as laundry detergent & it’s a fair trade product and smells amazing
Camping blanket
- because my route has been warm [aside from Nepal] I got a camping blanket rather than a sleeping bag and it was the best decision. I’ve used it in every country because it’s not too hot
“Cheaper” Tent
- I got one of the cheaper tents at REI and was skeptical at first but it’s been perfect. It poured every single day of my training camp and it kept me perfectly dry. I’ve used it only in a few other countries and it has done the trick

Luci light
- luci is an inflatable solar powered light and it’s been one of my favorite things! It’s perfect for when the power goes out [which happens often in other counties] or to read at night

Anker portable charger
- a good portable charger is a must. On travel days you’ll go days without an outlet so having one that will last a few charges is so nice

Essential oils
- The ones I’ve used the most are tea tree & peppermint. Tea tree helps keep mosquitos and lice bugs away and peppermint helps with motion sickness – trust me you’ll want both!
A luffa
- after a long day of manual labor you’ll want nothing more than to scrub well
Hydro Flask
- I wasn’t sure if I wanted a hydro flask it’s much heavier than a Nalgene and every pound matters haha but I’m glad I got one because I have done so much manual labor and having your water stay cold in the heat is such a perk
Nail polish
- if you’re wear it back home you’ll want it & it’s nice to feel like a girl sometimes
Clothes you don’t care about
- don’t bring nice clothes. They will get dirty, smelly, stained, & you’ll probably get rid of them. I currently only have 4 pieces of clothes I’ve started with. The rest I’ve traded with people along the way. Still bring cute clothes because you will want to feel like yourself but leave your favorite $100 Anthropologie shirt at home.
Hope this was helpful & you enjoyed reading about some items that have been my saving grace. Bye from Myanmar!!
