This past month I was up in the northern region of Costa Rica on a farm that works with discipling at risk youth. Everyday was different yet everyday was filled with so much joy. So here’s the inside scoop about what a day in the life was really like on the farm…

5.30am – My alarm is typically set for 5.30 because breakfast is always at 6. I’ll get up and go for a walk on the gravel road or sit in an eno to spend some quite time with the Lord before the day begins.

6.00am – Breakfast time! We always have a big breakfast to start the day that always involves rice, beans, and coffee.

7.00am – Work on the farm starts now and is different everyday. This week I helped complete the fence that surrounds the farm property. What that looks like transporting and putting up 200lbs concrete posts in the ground. We put the posts in holes and then mix concrete to fill the holes and stabilize the posts. It hard work but the people we work with (Steven and Manuel) make the time fly by. I get to work on my Spanish because they don’t speak any English & I now know the perfect ratio of sand to rocks to concrete mix to water to make the best concrete! I think its a skill that should come in handy in the future.

11am – We finish up morning work now and we do a daily devotional with our team and our host.

12am – Lunch time!

1pm – Nap time… yes we do indeed have an hour nap time. Sometimes I’ll take a nap but my favorite thing to do is help Rosie in the kitchen. She’s been teaching me how to make some traditional food here like homemade empanadas, arepas, and coconut cookies. Don’t worry I’m writing all the recipes down – stay tuned for a world race cookbook.

2pm – You could probably guess what’s next… snack time hahaha. We get coffee and homemade snacks at this time. It’s probably my favorite time of the day. It’s typically raining, which makes it even cozier. The sound of rain hitting the metal roof fills the entire farm.

2.30pm – Back to working on the concrete poles we go.

5pm – The work day is officially done, but the boys always want to play soccer so we do. We normally play 2v2 on a small grass field using sticks as goals.

6pm – Yes more food… it’s dinner time. Oh I forgot to mention before every meal we circle up, read a bible verse, and Tony, our host preaches to us. He has so much insight and wisdom so you never know how long its going to take.

7pm – We will do team time after dinner, which is when we get together as a team and each day a different person is in charge. It’s just a time to spend intentionally together. We might play a game, paint, or just encourage each other.

8pm – Today we did a bonfire outside all together & laughed a lot. Steven and Manuel are always making us laugh even though we don’t really know what they are saying.

9pm – Finally shower & bed time! Curling up in my top bunk after a cold shower is always satisfying after a long days work!

Update: On August 7th we head to San Jose for debrief with the whole squad and then on August 12th we head to PANAMA!! I’m real bummed about leaving these amazing people we met here in Costa Rica, but I’m so thankful the Lord has allowed me to make friends all over the world! I am absolutely BLOW away by how the Lord has provided throughout my whole fundraising process. I am only $1,337 away from being fully funded – which means we have raised over $17,863 for the Kingdom which is SO COOL! Thank you Jesus for always going above and beyond you rock!!!
