*Part 4 of my Q&A series! This is what I know so far!*
Q1: What countries will you go to? Answer: My route is currently Romania, Guatemala, and Ecuador! I was originally headed to Costa Rica instead of Guatemala, but the staff at WR realized we could better serve the ministries by switching Route 2 to Guatemala and Route 3 to Costa Rica. We could have a route change once we are overseas, so here’s to what God has planned!
Q2: If you got a tattoo on the Race, what would I get and where would I put it? Answer: I’ve thought a lot about this (sorry mom)! I’d probably get a small tattoo of a flower bouquet on the side of my ankle that face outwards. The bouquet would be made out of the national flowers of the countries I go to on the Race and also remind me of my grandparents because of their love for flowers/gardening.
Q3: How long are you spending at each location? Answer: I am scheduled to be in each country for three months. I like the fact that we spend a few months in each country because it really allows us to build stronger relationships!
Q4: Where will you be staying? Answer: It varies! Adventures in Missions has bases in Ecuador and Guatemala, other times we could be staying with host families, in churches, etc! In case we don’t have a place to stay, that’s why we carry tents with us!
Q5: What are the different kinds of ministries that you could be doing, and how do they decide who does what? Answer: There are so many ministries we could be helping with! I could be doing evangelism, teaching English, construction work, helping in orphanages, leading VBS, etc! I’m not exactly sure how the decide who does what, but I really think it depends on where they see ministries we could really help or what they feel God has placed upon their hearts. There are days called “ATL” which means “Ask the Lord” and see where and who He guides us to.
Q6: Which country are you looking forward to the most? Answer: Romania! I originally had a different route picked out because the countries were ones I liked, but the Lord made this route stand out.
Q7: What type of food do they eat in the countries? Answer: I think a lot of rice, beans, potatoes, bread, and veggies. Starches & carbs, my favorite. People say they get tired of rice & beans, but lucky for me I eat rice and beans a lot already so I don’t think I’ll mind.
Q8: Do you know Spanish or Romanian? Have you tried to learn any? Answer: I know a bit of Spanish! I took three years of it in high school, but dropped it cause I though I’d never need it again (God had different plans… sorry Profe Lorenz for my despise of Spanish class). I think I can get myself by & I know I’ll definitely learn a lot more. I know absolutely no Romanian. I think I’d just butcher it if I tried.
Q9: What is one “adventure” or tourist thing you’d like to do on the race? Answer: I want to do the “Swing at the End of the World” in Ecuador! It looks thrilling and beautiful!
Q10: Have you ever been on a plane? Answer: Nope! My first flight will be down to Georgia for launch. Guess we’ll see how I like planes then… I don’t think I’ll hate them though!
Q11: Will you be able to answer texts/emails? Answer: Yes! I’ll be able to have scattered access to WiFi. So I’ll probably use email, social media, and group me to stay in contact with people!
Q12: Will there be pictures? Answer: Of course! I am going to be a storyteller on squad so I will be mainly focusing on the photography aspect. I will have some restrictions to what I can post because WR wants to keep people safe.
Q13: Would you eat weird foods if you are offered any? Or do you have a limit? Answer: I mean, I guess if I know it isn’t an animal/meat that I’m eating, then I’d really be up for anything! It’s part of the journey.
