This blog won’t be anything too exciting or too extraordinary. The most helpful thing we did this month was name a dog Cheese in Spanish. (Only kidding we definitely did a lot more than this but he is arguably the cutest dog alive.)
Although it wasn’t exactly what I had expected. God enjoys breaking our expectations, doesn’t He?
The last 23 days have been extremely slow. Most days we were sat in front of a tv watching Spanish soap operas. On lucky days we got to fold laundry! The people and places here are so beautiful it just didn’t feel like we had done anything productive.
Still our host, David, would come home praising us and saying how proud he was of the work we were doing. He made it clear that we were spending important time with his forgotten people even if we were only holding hands, combing hair, or mumbling broken Spanish.
Side note: the people at the home we were working at are all orphaned and all have special needs. They have no families and no one to spend time with. (besides the wonderful people working there)
Looking back he was right. From the moment we walked in the gates someone was always holding our hand, hugging us, and giving us kisses.
David and Scarleth, our hosts, told us multiple times that they felt like God wanted us here to slow down enough to just sit in His presence. They felt like He had us here during month one to make sure we had our hearts set to doing work WITH Him and not just FOR Him.
I honestly could not have been more grateful to start my race off anywhere else. God is slowly working on my heart to catch up to the determination needed to live this life.
To make it clear. I have met some absolutely wonderful humans in this beautiful country. God doesn’t always show up in big magical ways but there was no shortage of his powerful work here. We were able to experience some incredible new beginnings in more ways than one.
