The weather here in Swaziland has been very bipolar. One day it’s 101 degrees and we’re sweating while we sleep, the next is 55 degrees and we’re pulling out our sleeping bags as to not freeze. I was inspired to write a poem because of this:

“A violent wind blows on by, Cold cloudy days or hot sunny rays,This we don’t know until it’s here, without Wi-Fi there is no forecast, Any clean clothes? Well, no laundry today or the wind just takes it away”

Recently our ministry host began a Worship and Songwriting class I will be attending weekly. One of my goals on The Race is to grow in the area of leading worship. My hope is to start writing songs soon! Our first session involved us writing a poem about The Race. The criteria was: 8 lines, each line having 6 syllables, and the end of every other line had to rhyme. We only had 10 minutes so, lo’ and behold:

“You pulled me from the dark, and brought me into light. Called me to a journey, to walk by faith, not sight. What this year will behold, something I just don’t know. In the palm of Your hands, You just ask that I go”

This class is definitely a challenge that pushes me far out of my comfort zone, but it will be so worth it and I’m excited to see the fruit that comes from it!

This past week apart from prison ministry, we spent a good portion of our time painting a new building here on the AIM base. The space is meant to be a training center to facilitate in building leaders and teaching trades. My team had a lot of fun with this project. It was very rewarding to serve and help take the burden off some of the workers here.

This will be our last week of ministry before we have our month one debrief in Nelspruit, South Africa! We leave October 6th and will be in South Africa for 10 days. It will be a great time for our squad to celebrate and reflect our first month on The Race, as-well as process and pray over the time to come. We will be near Kruger National Park which means I will be able to cross “African Safari” off my bucket list! I’m excited for this time and hope to take pictures and create memories I can share with y’all.
