If I have to miss any faces, I’m thankful it gets to be yours. Leaving you felt like leaving a part of myself I never knew I had to give away. Your light. Your simple love. Your hands that held onto mine like life itself wouldn’t go on without intertwined fingers. Your dusty feet always leaving shadows of your memory on my clothes. Your smiling face running up to me when I walk up, and leaping into my arms like you know I’ll always be there to catch you. Your silly songs you echo in my ears all the day long. Your eyes. Wow. Eyes that tell more than feelings, but tell me your heart. I would do anything to have one more moment. Just one. A moment to see you smile. A moment to see you grow up. A moment to spend forever with you. But, there are more like you who need me, too. While no one will ever be who you are to me, I know you will carry our love with you forever. As will I. Although I may not see you graduate, get married, or grow into your new pair of sneakers, I will always know that we had the best days together. The best days I’ve ever gotten to experience. Days that turned my life into something more beautiful than any painting, song, or melody I’ve been able to muster up. You’re my once in a lifetime. My shooting star that lights up the entire sky. My bolt of lightning that leaves everyone breathless. You’re my favorite hello, and my most heartbreaking goodbye. My heart won’t ever be the same after you. I hate how this feels, but I’m so thankful to God for letting me have a love so strong that it hurts this badly to set it free. So, go. Go and be who I know you are. Beautiful children of God who have the world at your fingertips. You are more than they know. More than anyone can believe. You are everything good, beautiful, and important in the world. Go and love like crazy. Find Him in everything you see. Tell your family what He means to you. Hold Him close. Let Him hold you right back. If I have to miss anyone, I’m so thankful it’s you. You made my world different, my heart bigger, and my life evolve into something fuller than ever before. I’ll miss seeing your smile, but even getting to see it for a moment was enough for a lifetime. Run and fight and make your life something great. I believe in you. He does too.
