I am living in Guatemala! It’s so weird to say that. But it’s true! This is the most colorful place I’ve ever been. It’s so beautiful and the people are beyond amazing. I’ve been asked what it’s like to experience extreme poverty for the first time in my life. And yes, it is shocking but in a way you don’t even notice it because the people are so joyful and happy with what they have. If I had a dollar for every time a local smiled and said “hola” I would be fully funded. The people here are so friendly. It’s something I haven’t experienced. Because In the states everything is so fast paced and everyone is on a mission and not a lot of people slow down to say “hi” to every person they pass. It’s a very refreshing way of life. It’s really teaching me to slow down and experience life, and for that I’m grateful.
My ministry is AMAZING! My ministry hosts are some of the most beautiful people alive. They have taken my team in with open arms. We are in a village called Panimaquin- it’s about a 30 minute drive up into the mountains. At the base of the mountains is the town of Itzapa. Panimaquin has about 300 people, and they are all incredible. The people of the village have invited us into their homes to make tortillas, and allowed us to help gather corn in their fields. The hospitality here is unmatched. These people who already don’t have a lot will offer you everything when you visit their homes. I pray for a heart like theirs.
I have already fallen in love with the kids here. The little girls love to play with my hair and put flowers in my hair. At the end of the day, I always have the worst headache from having them tug on my hair, but it’s so worth it. Whenever they finish they always say “ohhhh! Bonita!” (bonita means pretty) and it is the most precious thing ever. It is such an honor to be able to play futbol with these kids everyday and just be able to pour into them. I feel like I’m living in a dream.
I’m so thankful to everyone who has supported me so far and I ask that you continue to support me on my journey. This truly wouldn’t be possible without my supporters. So much love.
