GOD IS SO COOL! Ok, so I’m going to tell y’all a story. Please know I didn’t want to tell this story because I do not want to brag on me, or for you to be impressed by me in any way; and i’m not trying to have false humility, I just genuinely don’t want to focus on me. However, God is too good and I have to tell y’all the story. So, please see how incredible HE is from this story, because HE IS SO INCREDIBLE!
Ok, so back in Ghana, which was in February, I was praying and asking God what He wanted from me in that country. I heard Him say, “Give away your guitar.” I bursted out laughing and said, “ummm no one i’m left handed and it’s impossible to find left handed guitars even in America, much less in another country where they find the left hand offensive (it’s a thing in other countries you literally cant do anything with your left hand). Also, God who in this country in going to play left handed guitar, also i’m trying to write an album by the end of this race and that can’t happen without a guitar, and also, NO I don’t want to.” So, I dropped it. Then 2 weeks later God brings it up again. So, I said fine if you really want me to then give me a chance to. But I was hoping He would forget about it lol.
So, it’s our last day of ministry in Ghana and we are in the market. Going around praying for people, sharing the gospel and at the end my friend Jordan and I played our guitars and lead worship. A little girl I met in the market named Gracie came up to me after we were done singing. She said, “Hey can I have your guitar?” I chocked knowing this was the moment, and I said ” No, i’m sorry it’s my only one.” And as I was walking away I said, “wait, Gracie what hand do you write with?” She said, “my left hand!” I was like oh shooooottttt I have to do this. However, I walked away!!
I was wrestling with God all the way home. Knowing I should have, but not wanting to. Then when I got home I opened my book and the bookmark said, “It is better to give than to receive.” And at that point I knew I had to go back and find this girl. So, I went back to the market and searched for her, but couldn’t find her. So, that night I prayed God would help me run into her again. The next day I ran into Gracie!! I was able to give her the guitar and share the love of Jesus with her and pray for her. She was so excited and couldn’t believe she got what she wanted. She said she’d wanted a guitar for so long and was so thankful for it.
FIRST!! Let me say God is amazing! I brought a tiny travel guitar with me (which I wasn’t going to do because I wanted a normal size guitar) but God knew a little 9 year old girl would need that guitar. It is the perfect size for a little girl, and God knew that!! SECOND!! I put this little hot pink floral strap on (which I thought was so dumb looking but it’s the only one I could find in my room last minute) AND IT WAS A PERFECT STRAP FOR A LITTLE GIRL! God knew before i ever left that Gracie would get that guitar. And to make it even cooler my team wasn’t even supposed to go to that city, and God rerouted us and we switched with another team to go there. SO, GOD DID THE SWITCH SO THAT SHE COULD GET THAT GUITAR!! Like God didn’t have to care about that little girl wanting a guitar but HE DID!! How cool is God!! IT GETS EVEN BETTER………..
So, then last month in Togo I was looking for a guitar. Because I was like foaming at the mouth to play music (if you get it you get it). I couldn’t find one anywhere. So, when I got to Thailand last week I googled to try and find a guitar store because I WAS READY TO FIND A GUITAR. A month without playing music was making me crabby lol. So, every guitar store was 45 minutes from the city we are in AND all the guitars were $500-$800. I was like, “God, I can’t buy a $500 guitar it’s too much. Please provide a left handed, light weight, acoustic guitar for under $100.”
The next day I walk into this shop and see a guy with a guitar (I wasn’t even going to walk into that shop but God led me to it) and I said, “Yo where did you get that??!!” In excitement! He said, “Oh there is a shop 5 minutes up the road you can walk.”
SOOOOOO, the next day I walk to this little guitar store. Hanging in the window is a little black acoustic guitar. MIND YOU I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED A BLACK GUITAR!! I never even said black in my prayer, but God knows. The guitar is light weight, the guy re-strings it and changes the tuning knobs and turns it into a left handed guitar, and he gives me a case, and a strap all for $96!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WAS SCREAMING AND DANCING WITH EXCITEMENT! (Ok so me and God have a thing with yellow butterflies every time I see one it’s like him saying Hey I see you babe!) And as I walk out of the guitar store A YELLOW BUTTERFLY FLIES BY!!
I was so excited I wanted to break something I couldn’t believe how good and kind God was to me. Like HE did not have to care about me or Gracie wanting a guitar, but HE did! Also, the guitar I got here I love SO MUCH MORE than my first guitar. If I hadn’t been given the opportunity to give up my first guitar I wouldn’t have even looked for a different guitar here in Thailand.
All this to show you ONE God is so cool and cares about every tiny detail of your life and every desire in your heart. Also, TWO God may be asking you to give something up, but you never know what is on the other side of your obedience. SO, God is flipping amazing. Just the greatest most kind God ever. In a country where everyone is buddhist and they have to bow down to a statue made of gold that isn’t present. It makes me so thankful I serve a living God who cares about the little things.
Liv 🙂
