So, in my time in Africa I experienced a lot of new and interesting things. Some things were comical and some things were super emotional and some things were spit water out of your mouth shocking. I saw multiple men (on separate occasions) look like they had just forgotten their towel after a shower and were running the streets in a panic trying to find it. However, they had not forgotten their towel they were just running full on naked, happily running to their next destination. Streaking? Maybe. I didn’t stop to ask.

Another thing in Africa is they ride Mottos (motorcycles) everywhere. In America there are a lot of rules around riding a Motto, but not in Africa. I’m just going to list for you a few of the MANY very unusual, if you will, things I saw on Mottos.

1. A family of 5 (yes that is 5 people on a motto)

2. A dead goat

3. A live goat, moving around.

4. A queen sized mattress held between two men

5. A full sized mattress folded in half on top of someone’s head

6. A huge steel pole (think power pole but a little smaller)

7. A door frame

8. An actual door

9. A literal tree trunk

10. 2 HUGE boxes of vegetables stacked on top of each other on a lady’s head (she didn’t even hold on to them!!!)

11. An actual new born baby just strapped in on the mom’s back

12. A massive glass window

I mean truly the list could continue.

Man, I loved Africa though. It was full of some of the most shocking and wonderful things. Nothing humbles you more than peeing side by side a stranger in a little trough like thing, and getting a little pee on you (wondering was that my pee or their pee… I don’t know but you let it happen) That happened on many occasions. You never really knew what to expect when it came to using the bathroom in Africa. I’ll spare you the details though.

Those are just some of the truly comical moments of Africa. The people were the most kind humans I had ever encountered and I’ve never felt more welcomed and loved. It made me so thankful for how easy we have it in America. I will never take for granted the blessed life I have back home. It’s crazy though that this is how people live, and they are some of the most hard working, happy people you will ever meet.

Just stay grateful always. No matter where you are. Also, if you are ever in Africa always bring toilet paper, because there is never any and the amount you sweat can truly make you wonder… is this pee or sweat running down my leg???? I DON’T KNOW. Haha 🙂
