Disclaimer: I am very limited with wifi this month, so I will be writing blogs and posting them later. Just keep in mind what you read is probably a bit delayed from when it happened!

After many long bus rides (10+ hours each) and a ferry, we made it to Penang, Malaysia! In the few days I’ve been here, I have been in awe of the diversity that exists. SO many cultures and religions coexist in this town, and it’s beautiful. On one street, it is common to pass a mosque, Buddhist temple, Hindu temple, Taoist temple, and even a Catholic church.

Culture shock was real, but certainly less dramatic since this is my second country. I have really enjoyed walking by the beautiful buildings—some colorful, many historic, and a few modern.

Our time here so far has included a huge emphasis on prayer, creating space for some powerful conversations. We actually live right by the Indian Ocean, and we can walk outside and look over to its beauty. The other day, I was sitting on the wall overlooking the tranquil scene before me. I talked with my friend and squad-mate Alyson, as we looked out at the pastel blue afternoon sky, and enjoyed the waves gently splashing over the rocks below. Just as we reached a thought-provoking turn in the conversation, I leaned in to listen well. Suddenly, I felt something hit the back of my head. I looked up and saw no rain, but knew it was the size of a drop. Slightly hesitant, I reached up and felt my hair, only to immediately recoil my hand. As I turned over my palm, an orange goo was revealed on my fingertips. In disgusted confusion, I asked Alyson to investigate the scene. She quickly concluded it was bird poop and proceeded in an honest attempt to wash it out using a nearby leaf and her water bottle. The deep talk promptly ended as I rushed to go and take a shower.

I’d love to tell you all I’ve learned, but, honestly, we just got here! I hope you enjoy this blog as a quick update on my whereabouts, and a lighthearted story not too far from the ordinary. I think God is present in the regular, slow days just as much as He is in the crazy, adventurous ones.

As always, I thank you for reading this and investing in this journey of mine with your time, money, and prayers. I hope all my supporters are well!

Much love,
