I am an introvert. I am not a person who stands up in front of crowds or speaks on stage. However, I am willing to take up new opportunities that arise. I am willing to challenge myself and who I am in order to let God take control and help me grow. I’ve always wanted to stretch myself to become more. Facing my fears is difficult and challenging, but there’s a wonderful sensation that comes when I am able to accomplish something outside my comfort zone. There’s a sense of confidence that arises within as I challenge myself. It’s not easy leaving my comfort zone, and I don’t think it ever will be. However, it is fulfilling. I believe that God works in many ways through us when we are able to step outside our comfort zones.

It takes a lot of courage for an introvert to speak in front of a crowd!

On January 2nd, I spoke in front of a crowd of people with a microphone in my hand. This is something way beyond me and who I am. I enjoy the small groups or one-on-one conversations. However, when this chance arose for me to speak about my World Race, I could not refuse such a wonderful opportunity. I was beyond nervous to speak that night. My heart was racing, my legs were shaking, and I was feeling sore all over. I was definitely stepping outside my comfort zone!

As I was preparing to go up, I kept asking God for courage and strength as I spoke. I prayed that I would be able to explain with ease His calling for my life. It wasn’t easy talking in front of people, especially through a microphone. I do think the practice of teaching has prepared me for this, although it was definitely a different experience than speaking in front of my students.

However, as I spoke about my journey and what God is calling me to do. I found more confidence than I expected. I found that I was able to speak with ease and confidence as I told my story. This was all God, I just had to be the one to step up and let Him speak through me. It’s amazing what God can do when we step out for Him.

I have found so much of God’s strength through this journey of my life, I can’t begin to imagine what all God is going to do next!

So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

– Isaiah 41:10
