A few weeks ago I got the idea to interview my squad members as a way to introduce those who are close to me to the people I will be serving with for a year, and I immediately got excited about the idea! So this is the start of a new little blog series where I’ll post about 3 interviews per blog post of each of my squad mates. I’ll also link their blogs so y’all can read more into their hearts. I hope each of you who read these can enjoy getting to know a little bit about the W Squad.
1. Where are you from and how old are you?
“I’m 22 years old, and I grew up in Arizona, but I’ve been living in Tyler, Texas for the past 2 years.”
2. When did you become a Christian?
“I grew up in church and accepted Christ at a very young age, but I didn’t actually start to pursue a relationship with Christ until I was around 17.”
3. What is one difficult thing you are proud to have overcome?
“I’m proud to have overcome a really self-deprecating way of thinking, and actively choosing to see myself the way the Lord sees me on a daily basis.”
4. Why did you decide to join The World Race?
“I joined The World Race because missions have been on my heart since college, and when I first heard about the Race, I wasn’t going to apply, but the Lord kept dropping it on my heart during my quiet time. With that, the passion for the nations that I had started bubbling up, and I knew the Lord was telling me to do it.”
5. What are you passionate about?
“I’m passionate about Jesus representing the heart of the Father accurately. Oh, and also, I LOVE photography.”
6. What is your current life verse?
“My current life verse has been my life verse for a LONG time. “For God did not give us a spirit of fear or timidity, but of love, power, and a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7″
7. What is one thing you want people to know about you?
“I guess something I want people to know about me is that my sense of humor is dry, so if you’re not sure if I’m making a joke, I probably am.”
1. Where are you from and how old are you?
“I am from a town right outside the city of Chicago, so I am a quick train ride into the city, and I am 23 years old! (Why do I feel so OLD)”
2. When did you become a Christian?
“I grew up in a Christian home and grew up in a mega-church, Willow Creek. My walk with Jesus has been very different than most because my faith has been tested numerous times, but He’s always my constant. I wanted to find my own path through my faith, so I’d say I became a full-blown follower of Jesus on my own when I was about 16 years old!”
3. What is one difficult thing you are proud to have overcome?
“One difficult thing I have overcome, that has changed the person I am, is surviving my sexual assault. I am a very blunt person, and I don’t try to hide what has happened to me. Instead, I share my story to show other young women that they are not alone. I have taken something so dark and so horrible and brought it into a movement and turned it into a life long passion of finding justice for those who have been through what I have.”
4. Why did you decide to join The World Race?
“Oh boy, I joined the Race because I love sharing my story, I love helping people, and I want everyone to feel what I feel when it comes to my faith. I want to share stories, and provide a voice to the unheard, and show that in every walk of life, loving God is possible.”
5. What are you passionate about?
“My biggest passion is writing. I am a journalism major, about to graduate, thank goodness. I love writing things that most people stay away from, choosing topics that are loud but portraying them as powerful and meaningful truths. I write about the topics that most people pretend don’t exist because someone needs to speak up for those who aren’t ready to. Another huge passion of mine is humor. I love to say I am a self-proclaimed comedian! I love making people laugh, connecting with people through humor and the purity of moments. Nothing can fix you like a person who can just make you laugh until your stomach hurts and your heart is happy.”
6. What is your current life verse?
“My current life verse is Psalm 46:5! ‘God is within her, she will not fall.’ I have it tattooed on my wrist so I never forget the strength I have within me and that I can conquer anything because I am a child of the one true God.”
7. What is one thing you want people to know about you?
“One thing I want people to know about me is I am morbidly obsessed with Crocs and La Croix. I’m taking a less serious approach to this question so everyone can understand how much undeniable love I have for these two things, and it is a HUGE deal for me to leave my babies behind. (hahaha) But on a more serious note, I think people should know that I try to use humor in the most uncomfortable situations to help and make others feel safe and better. I use humor for EVERYTHING, that sometimes people don’t really take me seriously, but I promise once you get through my tough skin, I’m a sensitive supportive gal who just wants everyone to feel like the best version of themselves, despite all the hard roads we have all been on and conquered.”
1. Where are you from and how old are you?
“I’m originally from Gainesville, Georgia, but I currently live in Fort Worth, Texas. I am 26 years old.”
2. When did you become a Christian?
“I became a Christian when I was six years old.”
3. What is one difficult thing you are proud to have overcome?
“You know, I can’t say I’ve completely overcome anything. Thanks to God, I have always moved forward in a lot of ways. I don’t let my insecurities stop me from reaching out to others like I used to do. I recognize my self-worth is in the fact that I am a child of God, not in my accomplishments. The thing is, every day is a new one and the struggles are always there. I have to make the choice to give them over to God and not give in to them each and every day.”
4. Why did you decide to join The World Race?
“For the first time in my life, I believe I am in a good place spiritually and emotionally so that I can give to and encourage others. Plus, I like to travel and learn new things.”
5. What are you passionate about?
“I’m pretty passionate about the importance of the Bible. It was joining a Bible study at my church that made all the difference in my life. There I learned how to read the Bible and glean insight and understanding from it and how to meditate on God’s Word. When you discipline yourself to read the Bible daily, you are renewing your mind. (Romans 12:2)”
6. What is your current life verse?
“The verse that I feel really sums up my life is the first part of Proverbs 24:16, ‘Though a righteous man falls seven times, he will get up.’ My life can be marked out in all the times I have stumbled and fallen. I’ve wanted to give up more than once, but the Holy Spirit would not let me. He’ll let me wallow for a day or two, but then He reminds me that giving up is not an option for any of us who have been entrusted to do God’s good work. (Eph. 2:10)”
Until next time! xx
