HOLY MOLEY.

One week from today, I’ll be hoping on a plane with my mama to start the first leg of the World Race.

Our squad’s first stop is Atlanta, Georgia. We’ll spend a few days there doing some final training and preparation before heading to South Africa.

Here’s what’s super fun about Atlanta: Our parents get to come too! While we spend a few days gearing up to leave, Adventures in Missions (the organization that runs the World Race), spends some time with our parents preparing them for what the next year can look for them.

Then a couple days later, our squad will say our last goodbyes and hit the road (or uh, the sky I guess).

My team and a couple of the other teams from our squad will be spending our month in South Africa working in Johannesburg with an organization called Impact Africa.

Impact Africa has five areas of focus: Impact Kids Preschool, The Impact Baby Rescue, Impact Mission Adventures, Impact Students, and the Missions Experience Program.

Impact Africa is doing some incredible things for the Kingdom of God through each area of its ministry. I cannot wait to see how our teams will get to serve alongside Impact Africa during our time there. If you’d like to check out their website, you can find it at impactafrica.org.

It’s crazy to look back at this last year and reflect on how much preparation it has taken to get to this point. The actual leaving. September 2018-July 2019 has felt like the longest Prologue and on August 1, we get to flip the page to Chapter One. (EEEK!)

Jesus has been so good to each member of our squad in so many ways during the Prologue. I expect that Chapters 1-11 will be no different.

Over the past month, I think I’ve stumbled through answering the questions “How are you feeling?” and “Are you excited?” about 100 times.

When someone asks if I’m excited, I want to answer with nothing but “ABSO-STINKIN-LUTELY. I’m so incredibly grateful for this opportunity to see the Lord move in huge, new ways around the world and partner with Him in expanding the Kingdom.” Which is 1000% true.

The part that I don’t want to tell you is that I’m excited beyond belief, but I’m also scared and nervous and anxious. So, If I was TRULY honest about how I’m feeling a week out from the Race, this picture would be an accurate summary:

And that’s okay. Emotions are beautiful and messy all at the same time. They’re part of being human. God gave them to us and He called them good. Sometimes I don’t know how to name my own properly, but “BNFSDIUPHGB” feels pretty close right now.

I’m beyond excited to be back with my team and my squad next week. I’m beyond excited to serve with them and grow with them this year. I’m beyond excited to see how the Lord is going to move this year. He’s already moving in huge ways around the globe and I can’t wait to partner in that work.

If you haven’t already, a great way to stay up to date with our squad’s happenings this year is to subscribe for email updates to my blog. You can do so by scrolling to the top of this page and hitting the orange button on the left that says “Subscribe for updates.”
