In Omnia Paratus.

If you’re familiar with Gilmore Girls (or Latin for the scholars in the room), you know that means “Ready for Anything.”

A year ago, almost to the day, I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Advertising and Public Relations. I walked across the stage with “In Omnia Paratus” written across my cap in gold script. There was obviously glitter involved as well.

I put those words on my cap for two reasons.

The first was because my mom and I love Gilmore Girls. Not only do we love Gilmore Girls, but we are Gilmore Girls. The resemblance between our lives is uncanny. Fun and spunky single mom, equally fun and spunky only child with a serious book obsession. It’s our thing.

Putting a Gilmore Girls reference on my cap felt like a fun way to thank my mom for the endless love and support she’s poured into my life, for the sacrifices she’s made to create a beautiful life for the two of us, and for the genetic predisposition towards dorky dance moves and coffee addiction. Shoutout to you, Vonda. You da best. Love you lots.

The second reason was because “ready for anything” felt like a good mantra going into the big, bad “real world.” And I really thought I was ready for anything. The trouble was, while I thought I was ready for anything, I was actually only ready for the plans that I laid out for my life.

I had a loose three year plan for my life and that plan was all that I was ready for. It included all the typical stuff. Find an apartment. Get a job. Buy a new car. Get married. Adopt a dog. Get an even better job. Live happily ever after.

I was ready for anything. Except for God to throw the blueprints I wrote up out of the window.

But man am I glad He did. This last year has been nothing that I expected and everything that I needed.

Over the past three months, Ephesians 3:20-21 has shown up in my life so many times that it’s laughable. Every time I see or hear it now, all I can do is chuckle a little bit and say “I hear ya, Jesus.”

Ephesians 3:20-21 says, “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt this last year, it’s that the Lord truly is able to do far better things in and through our lives than we can even imagine. To Him be the glory, forever and ever.

This time last year, I handed the Lord blueprints for a cottage. Like the good father He is, He looked them over and said “I think we can do better.” He made some adjustments to my plans. Erased a few lines I had haphazardly drawn. Added a few new and improved ones.

Before I knew it, the blueprints He was handing back to me were no longer for a cottage, but for a palace.

The plans are different than when we started out, but they are undoubtedly better. They are much more than I ever could have asked for or thought up.

It’s like God’s done this whole thing before. I should really stop trying to do His job considering how good He is at it.

The Race is quickly approaching. Our squad is less than a month from Training Camp (EEEEK!) and less than three from launch. I’m hesitant to say that I’m ready for anything, but I can say with full certainty that going into this season of life I’m striving to hold my blueprints with open palms instead of white knuckles.

As always, I want to invite you on this World Race journey with me. Here are a few ways to do that!

  1. The most important, pray. Right now, I’d love join me in praying that the Lord would continue to increase our funding. In my last blog I shared with you that I was praying hard for the Lord to increase my funding from 64% to 80% by May 1. He stinkin’ did it. And I can’t wait to see Him glorified as we raise that last little bit together.

  2. Subscribe. If you want to subscribe to my blog and stay up to date on what God is doing in my life and in this journey, click the orange “Subscribe for Updates” in the top left-hand corner.

  3. Share. If my blog has touched you in any way tell a friend by clicking the “Share with” links to share this on social media. Also sharing the link to this shirt fundraiser would be enormous help as well. 🙂

  4. Adopt a box. Right now I am doing a gift card raffle to fundraise and would love to enter your name! You can find more details at https://bit.ly/2Kz1wtF.
