Today I am going to tell you guys what a day in my life is looking like! I am currently staying at Cicrin Orphanage, which since arriving I have found out is no longer an orphanage. The government here is actually trying to shut down all orphanages, however they have allowed Cicrin to have up to 12 kids, but they are only allowed to stay for 8 days at a time! Also, here at Cicrin they have started a private Christian school, where this last Monday they started a new school year! So, there is a lot going on here, a lot of the time!
Here’s a day in my life;
Since the kids are in school most of the day our ministry here has been manual labor.
My day normally starts at 6:30 where I like to have an hour of quite time before breakfast, then at 7:30 we have breakfast! I’d say 90% of our meals here have had rice and beans and as someone who had a pretty strong hatred for them it has been a bit rough, but food is food and I got to eat and the cooks here are amazing! They make us all three meals every day! During breakfast we are given our jobs for the day, some of the jobs I’ve done is going to the plantain farm and using a machete to cut off the dead parts of the plantain trees, worked in the garden, helped in the kitchen, worked in the yard, helped over at the school and fixed a fence. So, after we are given our job for the day, we get started at 8:30 and work until around 11:30 or so. While we work is some of my favorite times, because you get to talk to those who you are working with and just get to know them better. It’s a lot of fun! Then at 12:00 we have lunch then at 1:30 we go back to our jobs for the afternoon to sweat some more! Depending on each job you normally get done between 3:30 and 4:30! Then you can clean up for supper, relax and do your laundry. Then we have supper between 5:30 and 6:00 so that we can watch the sunset on the lake. It is soooooo beautiful! Check out my Instagram for pictures @emilyjonnes_ Then we eat supper and we all share our pits and peaks of the day. Normally after supper we play some soccer with the kids until 7:30 which is when we have our team time. This is when my whole team just hangs out, shares their story, worships and played games! It’s always a lot of fun! After this I go back up to the house and shower off all the dirt and sweat of the day and go to bed around 10:30!
