We had been in the city ever since we started the race on August 5th.  I am learning the advantages of being in the city but I was definitely hurting for some time outside, away from all the city sounds and lights.  The team was feeling the same, so we decided to go to Qinghai Lake.

We were looking for an adventure and we definitely got one.  Qinghai Lake is the largest inland and salt water lake in China.  It is 1,600 square miles and located at 10,500’ elevation.

It all started when we realized we had no idea how to get there.  Thankfully, our amazing hostel lady told us to just go to the train station and show them a message in Chinese.  We kept showing this message to people and they pointed us in a circle for about an hour before we finally found where we were supposed to go.

We finally made it to the bus we were supposed to be on.  After about 4 hours the bus driver pulls over and motions for us to get off.  As the bus drives off we realize we are the only ones that got off and we are just on a random street with not a bus stop in sight, BUT we can see the lake!  We started to head towards the lake and ran into this man who didn’t speak any language we could translate.  Through a game of charades, he understood what we were trying to do and lead us to a camping spot.

We set up camp and began to eat our dinner.  Aspen packed our food for us so we were feasting on Yak jerky, watermelon, veggies, bread, rice and boiled eggs.  We then decided we wanted to have a night of prayer time with God and then open the morning up with worship.  It was such an amazing time; God definitely met us at that lake

There were tears, laughter, singing, dancing, and just an overwhelming presence of our Father.  Through my tears I snuck a few pics during worship and I think these will describe what it was like better than any words I could ever type out on this page.

This was such a much needed trip for everyone.  We all got way more out of it then we ever expected.  It definitely brought our already close knit family closer than ever.  I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings for us.

We also made a short video about our adventure of getting out there and back.  Please check it out and let us know what you think!
