What is my purpose? That’s a question I’ve been asking for as long as I can remember. A lot of times we think purpose is directly tied to establishing a strong career or accomplishing something that will change the world as we know it. But I’m learning that my purpose isn’t tied to material things. It’s the unique way the goodness and glory of our Creator can be reflected on this Earth through my life. What that looks like practically is different for everyone; we all have our own distinct passions and gifts that we bring to the table.

In fact, your passion and purpose are tied together. We’re all passionate about something, whether we’re aware of it or not. I think it’s usually something that’s so ingrained in us that we’re blind to it. Choose a problem that you want to fight against and brainstorm how you can be a part of the solution.

You don’t have to wait to start living your purpose. It’s also not too late to be living intentionally.

It’s easy for us to layer excuses on top of excuses, but what is one small thing you can do today? What’s one step you can take in the right direction?

For me, I recently realized how important it is to me that people know and feel that they are seen, loved, and valued. I want to help people plant deep roots of identity in Christ. I think it’s because I spent so long believing the lies that I was alone, that no one cared, and that I wasn’t worth it. I didn’t know who I was, so I blindly accepted what the world told me I should be. Now, I can boldly declare who Christ says I am, and it has changed my life.

Even though I don’t really know what living out my purpose in the long-run looks like for me yet, I’ve learned how I can live out my purpose today. I can choose to spend more time loving and laughing with the girls who come for the after school program here (even though I’d much rather be curled up in my sleeping bag) when they get here early or have to stay late. I can choose to be intentional about calling and messaging friends and family to let them know I’m thinking of them. I can choose to spend more time writing things to encourage and speak truth into people’s lives instead of watching Netflix all day. I can choose to fight for people in prayer and show them kindness instead of blowing up in anger. I can choose purpose over pride.

What are you waiting for?

-Catherine 🙂
