Coronavirus is not the problem.

I currently live in Southeast Asia. People here are equally as concerned about Coronavirus as every unnecessarily paranoid American. It is a serious issue affecting lots and lots of people. But, there is a bigger problem at hand.

·      24,000 + outbreaks

·      450 + deaths in China

·       1.4 billion people in China

·      2.4 % of China’s population is considered Christian

THERE IS THE PROBLEM. CLEARLY STATED.

We have taken precautions as a squad regarding Coronavirus. We are taking our health seriously, don’t worry.

During one of our conversations, a squad member spoke up about her concern. Her compassion floored me. Chandler said, “People are dying. Lots of people. And they don’t know Jesus.”

That is TERRIFYING. As Christians, that should scare us all. An entire country is being affected big time and they have nothing to hope for. They are likely praying empty prayers to their ancestors or invisible spirits.

This blog post is a wake up call, as well as a call to action. It’s an open invitation to intercede in prayer. I’ll admit, traveling to China isn’t my first instinct as a Christian. Christians there are heavily persecuted and face intense trials for their faith. I don’t want that for myself. I value my comfort and safety too much for that. I’m too selfish to put myself out there long-term in a place like China. Partner with me in changing this perception.

Can we collectively, as the body of Christ, pray for more open hearts?

Let’s pray the Lord calls an influx of Western believers to China and that He gives them enough faith to endure all that comes with the decision.

Let’s pray for the 2.4% of Christians already there.

Let’s pray the Lord wakes up the people with no knowledge or understanding of Christ.

Let’s pray He continues to reveal Himself where it is most needed.

Let’s freaking pray, y’all. China needs it. Southeast Asia needs it. Our world NEEDS it.
