My heart is an open space. That is the most Christianese sentence ever, and it’s really floating around right now as we move forward on the race. As the songs are ringing in my ears and people have been giving me the same great advice over and over I came to the realization that it’s a lot harder to create a truly open heart, that then lead me to the question of can a space that’s been used or lived in ever be truly open again?
If we compare our hearts to our bedroom, I took a look around my own heart and found crap shoved under the bed and paint that had been scratched and even holes in the wall from places where memories had been hung. All that to say it doesn’t mean that the space is a mess or unusable! One of the things that I think about when I set up my space is if it’s inviting, comfortable, and place of refuge for myself and others. So if your heart or space looks a little something like mine have grace for yourself and know that God will use your crap under the bed, scratched paint, and nail holes to bring others comfort or refuge. All you need to do is leave the door open for Him to come in and use what you have.
