Before I begin, I wanna give a shoutout to my bff, ShiAnn Coker (Putman) for being the inspiration for the title of this blog… ๐
“Declarations direct our lives towards what we speak.”
What are you declaring over yourself? Life or death? Truth or lies?
“Your words are so powerful that they will kill or give life, and the talkative person will reap the consequences.” Proverbs 18:21 TPT
This past month in Zimbabwe, my team was able to minister at a girl’s bible study group every Saturday. Every Saturday, before our team took over, the leader would start by saying, ”Let’s do our declarations.” During this time, each and every girl, ranging from 5-15, would stand to say a declaration over themselves (i.e. ‘I am smart’, ‘I am beautiful’, ‘I am worthy’, ‘I am God’s child’,etc.) Hearing each declaration would almost bring me to tears because these young girls are learning how to proclaim life over themselves, even when life is throwing them (sometimes) the worst of circumstances.
The first Saturday, I struggled to think of a good declaration to say about myself. Why is that? Why has it always been easier to believe the lies of the Enemy, rather than the truth from the Father?
As the weeks went on, I found myself pondering on declarations, and each day, I would say a new declaration over myself. As I started declaring life over myself, the Father began to break off the lies of the Enemy one by one.
When I started declaring life and truth over myself, I began to feel more free and more confident in who my Father is.
Declarations can be a little awkward at first (especially if you don’t fully believe what you are saying), but I promise, the more you practice them, the more you believe the truth.
I don’t know what lies from the Enemy you have previously believed or are currently believing, but I do know that they are junk and not true at all.
YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD.
YOU ARE LOVED.
YOU ARE SMART.
YOU ARE WORTHY.
YOU ARE STRONG.
YOU ARE IMPORTANT.
& so many other things.
I want to challenge you all to do 2 things:
1.) Each morning, look at yourself in the mirror and declare truth over yourself until you actually believe it.
2.) Do what my team calls “Lie Squashing”. Throughout the day, each time, you say or believe a lie about yourself, (I.e. “I’m ugly”, “I’m dumb.” etc.), combat it with 3 truths, (I.e. any of the bold words above, or make up your own!). We do this so that we are always declaring truth over ourselves and each other!
“We can a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.” James 3:3-5 NLT
I pray that you take this blog to heart and start believing and declaring truth about yourself. ๐
Much love,
AC
P.S. My team officially made it to Livingstone, Zambia on Saturday, October 12. We are partnering with Africa 4 Jesus this month. I will do a blog soon on the different types of ministry we will be doing. ๐
