We arrived safely in South Africa a few days ago, we have had ministry training the past few days and spent time in the community of Diepsloot yesterday doing children’s ministry. Diepsloot is a squatter community of 300,000 people outside of Johannesburg. We begin full-time ministry Monday morning in a variety of roles and are so excited to love this community, serve them, and join in the amazing work of the Holy Spirit there! Impact Africa has been working in this squatter camp and 6 others for 15 years.
A quick little update about the first 72 hours…Ally was sick from leaving Atlanta until our first evening in South Africa. We’re not entirely sure what it was, but she experienced the full spectrum of symptoms from body aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. We laughed because we hadn’t even left the US yet when the vomiting hit during our layover in Boston. Oh man. A few other team members got more sinus/respiratory stuff during our nearly 50 hours of travel. But, we are very thankful for the love and support of our team members, donations of ginger ale, crackers, pillows, and a window seat on our longest flight so Ally could sleep. Vomiting in an airplane bathroom is no fun. But, the Lord is faithful, she is well today and secretly hoping that was the illness for the year. Austin is well and we are so thankful to be on this journey together.
Our compound does not have wifi or any connection, we ran to the store today, so sorry this is quick. We will have more of a detailed ministry update of what we specifically are doing and maybe some stories from our front week full-time very soon!
Please be praying for continued sustained health for us all as we dive into the community!
Love you all,
Ally & Austin
