Patience: what actually is patience and are we capable of truly being patient??

I often ask myself this question because I constantly find myself rushing through my day to day activities. It’s easy to tell people to relax, breathe, and have patience. But, when it comes to ourselves it is hard to live that out when we want something faster than we probably actually need it. One of God’s fruits is patience, so why is it so hard?? With the World Race I find myself trying to have patience in fundraising, and even in waiting for the Race to start. I am constantly trying to be persistent in my fundraising and keep up the social media posts. But how can we be persistent while being patient in the results? We want immediate results. That is the key problem in having patience. We always want answers right away, but God uses the waiting period to teach us how to have patience. Sure, we are going to get frustrated in the waiting, but that frustration is not from God. That is from the enemy, along with anxiousness. God wants us to delight in the waiting and be thankful where we are. A blog I once read says that patience doesn’t mean passivity or resignation, but power. It’s an emotionally freeing practice of waiting, watching, and knowing when to act. This could not be more true. Why do we rush, knowing that God fights our battles for us?? Galatians 6:9 says “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” What a depiction of how awesome our God is. He wants us to be still and in his presence and he will fight for US! I always worry about whether I will be able to do certain tasks or fight for what I want in that moment, but I don’t have to worry. We must cast our worries on the one who takes away anxiety and worry and allow him to replace those feelings with peace, patience, and above all joy. Even in the waiting, there is GOOD. Be patient. Have joy. Live your life for the now.
