Hello friends!
For those of you who don’t know me personally or stumbled upon my blog randomly (THANK YOU!), my name is Ashley Spickler and I am 27, from Northern Illinois, and here are some random facts about me:
1. I am a counselor/school counselor currently working full-time at the Elementary School where I grew up and with part-time with an agency that does Therapeutic Foster Care for children/adolescents moving out of residential programs and into foster homes. I love LOVE both of my jobs and the fact that I get to show some kids who feel “unlovable” just how loved and important they really are. It’s THE. BEST.
2. I believe in saying YES whenever given the opportunity to do new things. Some of the best decisions in my life came when I said yes to a challenge or adventure without fully knowing how it would work out or what would come from it.
(Watch! I’m about to carry out something new! And now it’s springing up- don’t you recognize it? I’m making a way in the wilderness and paths in the desert. Isaiah 43:19 ISV)
3. I LOVE traveling and have been so blessed to have the opportunity to have traveled to 12 (I think?) countries throughout Europe, South/Central America, and Africa. I CANNOT WAIT to add more to my list and to spend time living and loving in South America, Africa, and Asia (!) as part of THE WORLD RACE!
4. My family and friends mean the world to me. I have two brothers and a sister who are incredible people and are truly my very best friends. I also have a niece, Paislee, and a soon to be sister-in-law! My friends (and boyfriend) help me to stay grounded and remind me who I am. Leaving them will be one of the hardest parts of the race.
5. Thrift stores. Ice cream. Iced coffee. Dogs. Football games. Netflix. Kayaking. Sunshine. Beaches. Netflix. Books. Hammocks. Summertime. Mexican food. Being outside. Drive in Movies. Zoos. Meaningful conversations. Eye-opening experiences. These are a few of my favorite things (in no particular order.)
