Agape (Ancient Greek ?γ?πη, agape) is a Greco-Christian term referring to love, “the highest form of love, charity” and “the love of God for man and of man for God”.
I have been working at Nikki’s Agape home for four weeks now. For most of the day I am with my teammates working on something that the orphanage needs. I have been these girls day in and day out 24/7 working, living, sleeping, everything. Quite frankly I’m surprised that I even want to hang out with them more on the weekends. (But I love them and they are such a great group of girls) And you would think that since we do life with each other there is not that much to talk about. Well let me prove you wrong I have so much to learn from all these amazing women. Five to six hours a day I have to learn and laugh with these girls. This has taught me fellowship and how important it is to learn and grow with others. (and it has been great so far) Also later this week I will let you meet all these girls I am talking about. 😉
There is a part of the day where we get to spend an hour and a half with the children and nannies. Guys the nannies that work here are incredible! They love the kids so well. Many of them have been working there for 10 years plus and some even live with the children in the homes at the orphanage. These women have shown me patience, patience with the kids and with me when I don’t know what they are saying in thai. They have so much selfishness and humility within them. Putting the kids above themselves and quite literally giving up their home to live and care for the kids.
And lastly the kids… these precious children. They melt my heart every time they smile and run to give me hugs or try to karate kick me (that’s also a form of love) I have learned a lot from these kiddos. All of these children have so much joy and are so happy (most of the time) but they are so content with where they are at and what they are doing. They find joy in the little things with their creative and inventive minds. They aren’t constantly upset at what they don’t have, but what they do. Which made me realize how many things I take for granted and feel like I need the next new best thing. All I need is true agape and I have found it here.
