“God is in the sound of sheer silence.” -Unknown
This past month we have been working at “Agape Home”, an orphanage of all ages specifically for children with HIV/AIDS or at risk. Tuesday it was a holiday in Thailand and so the kids got off of school and during that day we got to go swimming with them. I met a girl (whose name I am not allowed to say) who is 12 years old and so full of life. I went swimming with her and all I could think was “I want to have as much fun with this girl as possible, I want to make her laugh, I want to do everything with this child!” After we were done swimming, we went to the trampolines and jumped on it for about 2 minutes tops and then she took my phone and begin playing games on it. While she was doing that I simply just laid there watching her smile and laugh as she played piano tiles. This day reminded me a lot about the amazing man upstairs and how powerful his presence is.
I have always thought that being a Christian was about reading as many stories as you can in the Bible or watching as many sermons as you can on a Sunday afternoon because you didn’t want to go to a foreign church. I thought you always had to be talking to God about your life and your plans and seeing if they match up with the perfect path he has created for you. Don’t get me wrong all of that is so important but I’ve come to learn that it isn’t always about the “Go Go Go”, sometimes it’s just about soaking up His presence. Laying there with no thoughts but laying in silence and being able to physically feel the Lord’s presence. I believe it’s a fine reminder that the Lord is always with us, in the fun, in the learning, in the hard times, in our dreams, and in the silence.
“And he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence.” -Revelation 7:15
