Why am I doing this?
I’ve had a couple people ask me, “Why are you going on this trip?”. The simple answer that I usually say is that “I love travelling and learning about new cultures! I’m a very adventures person and I feel that God has called me to go.”. It’s obviously deeper than that.
I’ve known for awhile that I’ve had a heart for serving others. I’ve done two Work Crews for Young Life. Work Crew is basically a large group of high school kid’s that give up a month of their summer to serve at a Young Life camp. They do all sorts of jobs ranging from serving meals, washing dishes, cooking and a lot of other jobs. I’ve also done Summer Staff with Young Life. Summer Staff is the same as Work Crew except that it is for college age adults. They also do different jobs ranging from maintenance, being a life guard, driving boats, operating ropes courses, and many other jobs.
I have been to Ghana and El Salvador for missions trips. After going to both of these countries, I’ve realized that I love third world countries and that I wanted to go to more of them. I also realized that my heart was more content and that I learned a lot about myself, including the type of man that God has designed me to be. I was also brought up to always help others in need and to do my best to serve others, even if I can’t do much to serve them.
I want to serve others more and not just in my community and country. Don’t get me wrong, I love America and my home. But, God made me an adventurous person and a person of servant hood. That is why I am going on this trip!
