hey people!!!
i haven’t really blogged much since arriving in guat and God’s been doing some pretty awesome stuff so here’s a little update on what life has looked like for me the past few weeks.
•my squad just got back from our midpoint debrief!! we traveled three hours by bus and over an hour by boat to lake atitlan where we celebrated all the ways we’ve grown since day one of the race! the past week was a time full of reflection of where God has taken us and a time of excitement for where God will take us in the next four and a half months. officially being past the half way point comes with a mixture of shock, joy, and sadness, but ultimately a lot more appreciation for every little moment i have with this crazy family.
•my team and i have spent the past month and a half serving people in a tiny farming town called calderas. from teaching english, hosting bible studies, playing soccer, visiting homes, and just getting to love on people, i’ve learned a lot about what it means to walk in the power of the Spirit and seek out opportunities to join God with the work He is doing in the lives of the people here in whatever way that looks like.
•some fun facts about calderas: it’s located at the base of a volcano, the ground is still covered in ash from last year’s volcanic eruption, it only takes 15 or 20 minutes to walk around the entire village, kids spend their free time setting off fireworks, men riding horses and women holding machetes are the norm, and the people are some of the most welcoming i have ever met.
•i’ll end with this: sometimes teaching about david and goliath turns into boys throwing rocks at one another and sometimes playing soccer means getting roasted by some seven year old girls, but i really wouldn’t change a thing.
if you want to know more or just talk, let me know! i’d love to chat!
