I have this desire.

This desire is to hear more of God’s voice. Whether it be through the Word of God, through the Holy Spirit, through His creation, through a still, small voice… my soul yearns to hear Him speak.

Not just every once in awhile. Not only when I feel like listening. Not only when I am in the ‘highs and lows’ of life.

I want to hear Him always.

Strange how our desires and actions don’t always align. I desire to hear Him, and He desires for me to hear Him, too. He wants me to be close to Him. He wants me to love Him as He loves me. Yet, while I have such strong desires for Him, once again, I find myself not following through and living as I would desire. But thanks be to God, for His “grace is sufficient” for me.

And for you.

A question that I ran across this past week in Bible study in discerning the voice of God by Priscilla Shirer: What does your current desire to hear God’s voice revolve mostly around?

  • Your desire to know what God wants you to do
  • Your desire to know where God wants you to go
  • Your desire to know God

God wants to you to know Him. God wants to speak to you. He does speak to you. The direction you’re looking for comes with knowing Him. Your purpose in life will unveil as you get closer and closer to Him. Just keep Him as your prize. We shouldn’t seek Him because He will give us blessings or because we want Him to show us what to do with our lives. He wants a relationship. He wants you. If your desire to know God and love Him is your intention and what you’re heart is truly after, you will see that every. single. thing. in life will fall into place. He is with you. We need to obey Him and draw near to Him. With that, comes a full life of hearing His Spirit in our souls and a life that is fulfilling His calling.

I leave you with this.

What is your prize? What is the one thing that you want from life more than anything else?

For me, it’s Jesus.

He is my prize. Having a relationship with Him is what my souls thirsts for most; I feel it in every fiber of who I am. I am His. And He is the only one who satisfies me.

“I am the bread of life. whoever comes to Me shall not hunger and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst.” -John 6:35

As I head to training camp for the next 10 days, I pray that God works in my life and reveals more of Himself to me. I pray that I have an open heart, an open mind, and a heart ready to truly encounter His presence even more so than ever before; not only in this time, but forevermore. I pray as I draw closer and closer to Him, that I become more and more aligned in hearing Him speak to me.

Psalm 119:1- “With my whole heart I seek You; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”
