I have discovered something.
It all started when I read both of Bob Goff’s books (He is an incredible human and I’m obsessed honestly).
In his books, he would tell stories and then relate them to how Jesus wants us to love. It’s awesome, but what got me were his stories. One time, he decided he wanted to sail from Los Angeles to Hawaii. He had never sailed before, but he made it happen. Another time, he decided he wanted to go to law school. He did horribly on the test, but was determined to get into the school that he wanted, so he sat on the bench everyday for weeks and talked to the dean of the school when he saw him. Because Bob didn’t give up, he eventually got into the school of his dreams. I was blown away by this man and all of his stories. He knew what he wanted, so he made it happen.
He had so much faith.
Faith is something I’ve always struggled with. I remember one time I was at a church camp in Panama City and one night, they asked us to write one of our biggest struggles on a rock and then throw it into the ocean when we were done. I wrote faith on mine (I really hope the fish in the ocean have been inspired by my rock, because it’s been 5 years and now I think I get it).
I’m such a dreamer, and I have no faith that my dreams would ever come true (I now realize that’s dumb because I’m in the middle of Ethiopia).
I would think that they were too impossible.
I would think that they weren’t from God.
I would think that I’m too normal.
Here is the truth:
Because of Jesus, nothing is impossible.
Because of Jesus, He gave me those desires and dreams.
Because of Jesus, I will never be normal.
You see, Bob Goff made things happen because of his faith.
I have Jesus living inside of me. Jesus gave me free will and He trusts me enough to make the right decisions. Instead of waiting to hear Jesus to see if I should do something. I should just do it, because He is with me, He is for me, and He will never leave me. Faith is a cool thing huh?
Want to hear a fun story about faith?
Me and my team were under the stars one night getting ready for worship and I got an idea to pray for one of my teammates because she has never seen a shooting star. I laid my hand on her and prayed that she would see one. She looked at me and said, “I doubt it, there are like 5 stars in the sky,” but I had faith and I knew that Jesus would show her a shooting star. After worship, we all came back together and she walked up to us and said, “y’all, I saw a shooting star.”
That’s what faith can do.
