What will your life be like day to day in Guatemala? What will you eat, what is your ministry work, what will you do that is touristy, and what are your sleeping and showering options like?
We will do ministry every Monday through Friday and then our weekend are open for whatever. We have two awesome cooks who cook for us on the week days and we get a food budget for the weekends. And our team share a room so we have bunk beds and 1 shower
What were your favorite memories while in each country?
In Swaziland the worship was incredible! They had some of the best voices I’ve heard, and they were so invested in it. In Nepal it was a toss up between when my team came to visit me in the hospital when I was really sick, and when we rented out a club for two hours and just danced during our debrief there. In India it was getting to spend time with the family that lived next to the dorms we stayed at.
What were your favorite foods, snacks, or meals in each country?
In Swaziland we had two locals that would cook for us, and so I think my favorite meal there was the beef stew that was made for us. In Nepal I loved momos, they are like a dumpling. And in India I loved the fried chicken that was made for us.
What impact has this trip had on you personally?
The trip has grown me in my relationship with the Lord. I know have a intimacy with him that I never had before. And I have a hunger to keep in the word and to keep pursuing that relationship.
Which cultural norms have been the most surprising, intriguing, or interesting?
That everyone in all the country’s we have been to are so loving and welcoming. It’s totally different Than being in America. People honestly are so much more caring. It’s just the culture. Hospitality is part of their ways.
The various types of toilets you got to use.
Well it has either been a westernized toilet, a squatty potty, or a hole in the ground that once filled would be covered with dirt.
In Swaziland (southern hemisphere) does water go down the drain clockwise, opposite of northern hemisphere?
Well I looked for that and not really. All the water just kind of went into the actual toilet bowl all at once.
What’s your top 3 spiritual moments or when you felt God using you to help someone else?
In Swaziland when my team went out and did evangelism for the first time. We got to see a man who stole his tools that he needed to do his work literally throw them away to be able to do honest work and to follow Christ. And he fully accepted Christ in his heart there with us. Here in Guatemala we were doing ATL(ask the Lord) and we were invited into a families home. And while there the Lord placed on my heart that someone there needed healing. The Lord also put that on one of our ministry hosts hearts and so we asked them if anyone had any pain or was feeling sick. And 4 of them had pain or where sick. And we all split up and prayed for them and they were all healed. And then being able to be poured into by everyone around me and learning what it means to have a truly Christ centered community.
Are you glad you went?
I’m more than glad I went.
