DeQuincy, Louisiana
a little corner of our country that was struck by two hurricanes over the span of just a few weeks. a little corner of our country where people have grown weary & hopeless. & a little corner of our country where God is just as present in the midst of it all. throughout my time in DeQuincy, I felt a pretty heavy spiritual darkness that was blanketed over the city, but on Friday as I was praying, God spoke so much life over that place. I wanted to share it here with all of you as a testimony of who God is- King. there is no one higher than He, & there is nothing/no one that has a higher authority. [Jeremiah 10:6, 1 Samuel 2:2, 1 Chronicles 17:20]
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. -Psalm 27:1-3
THAT is the God that we serve, the God that loves us, our Father.
As I was praying, God gave me this picture of the people of DeQuincy recovering from one storm only to be hit by another, & this is what He had to say about it:
-THE WINTER IS OVER
-He reminded me of Exodus 12:22- Exodus 15 where He leads the Israelites out of slavery & bondage
-He reminded me of some lyrics from “Springtime” by Chris Renzema…we will sing a new song//cause death is dead and gone with the winter//we will sing a new song//let hallelujahs flow like a river//we’re coming back to life//reaching towards the light//your love is like springtime!
-I AM HOPE TO THE HOPELESS
-The Lord is gracious & righteous, our God is full of compassion. The Lord protects the unwary; when I was brought low, He saved me. Return to your rest my soul, for the Lord has been good to you. (Psalm 116:5-7)
After the Lord had spoken all of this to me, I thought about how every time we finished a job at a home, we presented the homeowner with a bible. Almost every time (especially after we told them that the team had signed the inside) the homeowners were brought to tears. I would think to myself “we made the smallest dent by tarping their roof & removing some trees from their yard,” but the Holy Spirit convicted my heart by reminding me that we are leaving them with something so much more valuable-
the hope of Christ.
Thanks for reading everyone!
With love,
Nikki
