Good evening my sweet friends and family! As always, these big thoughts of mine always seem to come in the middle of the night, so here we go again!!
My mentor and I are working through a 24 week devotional book, and one of the devotionals for this week was titled Double-Mindedness. Basically it listed 6 verses to look up and respond about what we learned about being double-minded. The first verse came from the book of Joshua.
“Now therefore fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.”
Joshua 24:14
The word that immediately stole my attention was the word ‘sincerely,’ which essentially means genuinely or honestly. Grasping that, I then moved along with the other verses, coming across one in 2 Kings.
“But every nation still made gods of its own and put them in the shrines of the high places that the Samaritans had made, every nation in the cities in which they lived. The men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, the men of Cuth made Nergal, the men of Hamath made Ashima, and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. They also feared the Lord and appointed from among themselves all sorts of people as priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the shrines of the high places. So they feared the Lord but also served their own Gods, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.”
2 Kings 17:29-33
After reading this verse, I was blown away. When we worship Jesus, but also worship other gods and idols we do not truly have a personal relationship with Him. Walking in double mindedness leads to us investing all of our time into other idols, and in turn results in us putting our relationship with Jesus on the back burner.
Friends, He deserves our full attention. Living genuinely and true to Jesus looks like praising Him and only Him. So let us turn away from whatever we may be idolizing & live out the sincere relationships that Papa desires from us this week, whatever that may look like for you:)
All the love,
Nikki
