Truett McConnell Assignment
“To worship God means to ascribe the proper worth to God, to magnify His worthiness of praise, or better, to approach and address God as He is worthy.”
Worship is a lifestyle. It is a way to live, not just a time when a congregation sings three songs at the beginning of a church service. The Lord has been calling me into a season of understanding that more and more. Our human minds cannot mentally wrap around the magnitude of the power and love that God has for His children. However, living out a worshipful lifestyle, means recognizing all He d7oes and how good our Heavenly Father is truly. The more I come to know the Father and the more He reveals himself to me, the more I know of His character, this makes me want to worship him.
I began my musical worship journey at a very young age. My father is a pastor and worship leader, so worship with song and instruments has been a large part of my upbringing. I watched my dad lead worship every Sunday at church for years and years. I began leading worship in church when I was 17. Worship is a tool that creates space for unbelievers and believers alike, to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit and hear the voice of the Lord. That is very powerful to know the Lord entrusts worship leaders with that responsibility.
My team leader Corbyn, prompted me to research Hebrew words in the Bible that describe further on how to live out worship. They are “hallal”, which I took to mean, looking like a fool for God. Are you willing to do crazy things for your Father? Psalm 150 says, “Praise him with tambourines and dancing. Praise him with stringed instruments and flutes. Praise him with loud cymbals. Praise him with crashing cymbals.” David, who wrote Psalm, was a king who danced and sang for the Lord; he did not care if he looked like a fool. “David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might. “I am willing to act like a fool in order to show my joy in the Lord.”” 2 Samuel 6:14 and 21.
The next word “towdah” means to humbly accept and to give thanks. Psalm 42:11 says, “Why are you discouraged, my soul? Why are you so restless? Put your hope in God, because I will still praise Him. He is my savior and my God.” Be thankful in all circumstances because the Lord is faithful, whether you can see it or not. The next word “barak” means to kneel or humbly submitting to God. Our worship be a posture of kneeling with a humble spirit. We our not worthy of the spirit if the living God, but He’s that good. He desires so strongly to connect with us. Tehillah means praise and adoration. The thing I prompt myself to do, is sing out my own spirit’s song of thanksgiving. Our heart posture in all things should be one of thanksgiving.
These words prompt us to come about worship in a new way with a new perspective. Our God is so beyond worthy for worship. We should remember in our everyday lives, and try to live like He is good and worthy.
