There are so many amazing photographers on my route with the world race! I’m so stoked to grow and learn with them over these next 9 months. But…. with all this talent around comparison crept inside. I was struggling with how i would fit in and find my own style while being surrounded by so many gifted people.
There were so many moments i want my camera in a day, so i basically never put it down. I wasn’t seeing Cambodia with a Kingdom perspective, i was looking at it through a small camera lens. One day in the market, i was frantically taking pictures when i heard the Lord. He told me that i didn’t need to worry. He would bring me to the people He wanted me to photograph. Once i listened to Him, slowed down and obeyed, intimacy and authenticity came from my photos.
It was pointless worrying about finding my own photography style. i am who He says I am! all i need to do (when it comes to photography or anything in life really) is listen and obey the King of my heart. He has brought me into THE coolest situations, with extraordinary people and places i would have never found on my own.
NOW for a more logistical look at what photography means for me.
My favorite photography is film. I love being in the darkroom and physically handling my work. It’s thrilling to watch photographs develop before my eyes. Unfortunately, i couldn’t bring my pentax film camera with me for 9 months and carry around all that film. Sooo instead of my pentax, I brought a canon t6i with a 35mm and 55mm lens. In my digital photography, i like long exposures because they capture movement. The blurred lines show the unique spirit of the person at hand. This reminds me so much of film.
This is a quick rundown of my photography in month one being on the race! Papa is present in EVERYTHING, He cares about the things I care about.
