Nine months down, two months to go! Here’s some highlights from our time in Antofagasta, Chile!
- Took a 9 hour bus and a 20 hour bus to get from Mendoza, Argentina to Antofagasta, Chile.
- I hung out with a whole lot of teenagers this month! Our first day in Antofagasta consisted of going to youth group.
- We walked to McDonald’s to get ice cream a few times!
- Antofagasta is located in the mountains, overlooking the beach!
- For our first adventure day, we got to see the archway in the ocean and went to Juan Pablo, a beach town in the mountains.
- We ate a whole bunch of avocado.
- For the first week, we lived a couple blocks away from a soccer stadium! The national team played while we were there and we could hear the cheers from the house.
- My phone didn’t work for a week at the beginning of the month. That week ended up being one of my favorites on the Race.
- We found a really nice grocery store during the second week (it really is the little things).
- I got to watch a little bit of soccer during our first week.
- We found a Thai Restaurant close by! We went out to eat on one of our adventure days to celebrate Daniella’s birthday!
- We ventured into the middle of the driest desert in the world to see The Hand.
- We had a lock-in for the teens and young adults our last weekend in Antofagasta.
- I lost my wallet, which had everything but my passport in it.
- Katie, Marilyn and I went back to the Thai Restaurant on one of our off days.
- We got to celebrate Chile‘s Independence Day.
- Hiked a mountain in the Coastal Mountains for Adventure Day. We could see literally all of Antofagasta from the top.
- Bought a new pair of jeans and a new flannel.
- We went on vacation with our hosts and spent 3 days in San Pedro de Atacama.
- Went to the Valle de Marte, which is part of the Chilean desert that looks like Mars!
- Saw the most incredible stars I’ve ever seen in my life in San Pedro.
- I made wonderful friends that I long to see again.
- Got deported trying to get into Bolivia, so we spent an extra few days in Chile.
Month 9 was truly a month to remember.
