Nine months down, two months to go! Here’s some highlights from our time in Antofagasta, Chile!

  1. Took a 9 hour bus and a 20 hour bus to get from Mendoza, Argentina to Antofagasta, Chile.
  2. I hung out with a whole lot of teenagers this month! Our first day in Antofagasta consisted of going to youth group.
  3. We walked to McDonald’s to get ice cream a few times!
  4. Antofagasta is located in the mountains, overlooking the beach!
  5. For our first adventure day, we got to see the archway in the ocean and went to Juan Pablo, a beach town in the mountains.
  6. We ate a whole bunch of avocado.
  7. For the first week, we lived a couple blocks away from a soccer stadium! The national team played while we were there and we could hear the cheers from the house.
  8. My phone didn’t work for a week at the beginning of the month. That week ended up being one of my favorites on the Race.
  9. We found a really nice grocery store during the second week (it really is the little things).
  10. I got to watch a little bit of soccer during our first week.
  11. We found a Thai Restaurant close by! We went out to eat on one of our adventure days to celebrate Daniella’s birthday!
  12. We ventured into the middle of the driest desert in the world to see The Hand.
  13. We had a lock-in for the teens and young adults our last weekend in Antofagasta.
  14. I lost my wallet, which had everything but my passport in it.
  15. Katie, Marilyn and I went back to the Thai Restaurant on one of our off days.
  16. We got to celebrate Chile‘s Independence Day.
  17. Hiked a mountain in the Coastal Mountains for Adventure Day. We could see literally all of Antofagasta from the top.
  18. Bought a new pair of jeans and a new flannel.
  19. We went on vacation with our hosts and spent 3 days in San Pedro de Atacama.
  20. Went to the Valle de Marte, which is part of the Chilean desert that looks like Mars!
  21. Saw the most incredible stars I’ve ever seen in my life in San Pedro.
  22. I made wonderful friends that I long to see again.
  23. Got deported trying to get into Bolivia, so we spent an extra few days in Chile.

Month 9 was truly a month to remember.
