One hundred days from today, I’ll be back on American soil. In 100 days, I’ll be back to what has been normal for most of my life. I started the World Race 224 days ago.

When I go home in 100 days, I’ll be in the land of Chick-Fil-A, normal orange juice, and being able to go places by myself. I’ll be able to eat whatever food I want, go to the church of my choice, and everything will be in English once again.

I will know where everything is located in Walmart, I will be able to go to my favorite coffee shops, and Chick-Fil-A will be easily accessible.

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a little excited for some Chick-Fil-A.

But I’m going home in 100 days, I’m going to be losing and leaving many things. Here is just a short list of what I will miss when I go home on November 22.

  1. My friends: I have 32 friends that have become family over the last 7 1/2 months. Not spending 24 hours a day with them is going to be weird and I can tell you already that I’m not going to like it.
  2. Seeing new places: I love South Charleston, Ohio (most people don’t believe me), but I’m going to miss going to new places every three to four weeks.
  3. Trying new food: I tried empanadas for the first time in my life when I traveled through Chile to get to Argentina (now I eat them every few days), and I tried falafel for the first time when I was in Malaysia. Being in new places has made me try new foods significantly more often than I would at home.
  4. Singing Christmas music at random times of the year. I am a strictly after Thanksgiving type of person at home, but I’m very different when I’m half way around the world.
  5. Being in deep community: I’ve had good community during other times in my life, but there is nothing like living with five to seven people literally all the time.
  6. Meeting people I never would have had the opportunity to meet: taxi drivers, baristas, hosts. All the people.
  7. Experiencing cultures in ways most people don’t get to because of staying in a place for up to a month at a time.

Stay tuned. There may be some updates to this one. There are lots of things to miss within Race life.
