I’m about to finish up month 4 of the race and leave Rwanda. I originally chose this route of the race because it went to 3 countries in Africa, and it has not disappointed!

We are working with a church called Faith Center Ministries and staying at Bishop Peter’s house with his family. His older son Moses and Moses’s kids, Christopher, Sandra, Shiela, and their friend Emmy went with us most days to translate and make sure we didn’t get lost. So, here’s a look into our typical day to day in Kigali!

7:30 am – wake up and get ready for the day. We are very blessed and the house we are staying at has indoor plumbing (except for the 6 days the water was turned off, then it was squatty potties and bucket showers for us!)

7:45am – team prayer time

8:00am – Breakfast. Usually this consisted of bread (I added peanut butter or Nutella to it), a hard boiled egg, and some fruit. The pineapple here is the best I’ve ever had.

9:00-11:30am – teaching English class. I along with my teammates Aryne, Frieda, and Tori taught the more advanced English class. Was I qualified to do this? Heck no. Luckily, Frieda is an ESL teacher and was a huge asset to us. I also taught the kids “y’all”.

12:00pm – lunch time! Lunch is french fries, white rice, green beans, black beans, and fruit.

12:30-2:30pm – free time to plan class or teachings, have quiet time, hang out with our host family, or just rest.

2:30-4:00pm – game time at the school/church with the kids. They taught us a lot of different games that they play and we taught them duck duck goose and cross the ocean.

4:00-5:30pm – door to door evangelism. The thought of doing this really intimidated me at first. But it turned out to be really great. The people here are so hospitable and would let a group of random strangers come into their home and just talk with them.

5:30-6:30pm – team time!

6:45-8:00pm – evening fellowship at the church. Every night we would participate in traditional worship and then we’d lead a worship song as well. Then one of us would speak for 10-15 mins and then Bishop Peter would give a sermon.

8:15pm – dinner time! Dinner was the same food as lunch.

After that we got ready for bed and went to sleep under our mosquito nets!

Kigali has been so amazing and it’s going to be very hard to leave. I’ll be posting a photo blog in a few days of all the pics I’ve taken in Rwanda, so look out for that!
