Fun Facts: ~The oldest city in Central America is in Nicaragua. The Ruins of Leon Viejo is over 1500 years old.
~Out of the 88 constellations that are found in the night sky, 86 of them can be clearly seen in Nicaragua.
~Lake Nicaragua is the largest lake in Central America and is huge for tourists. Another cool thing about Lake Nicaragua is also the only place where you can find fresh water sharks.
~Nicaragua has no street names, your address is given via nearby landmarks.
~Nicaragua is the only place in the world where you can surf down an active volcano.. which is dope, I would kill to do that!
Nicaragua is incredibly beautiful and famously biodiverse, with everything from beautiful rainforests to mountains to beaches. Although this place is gorgeous and known for tourism, this country is full of other forms of sadness. Many people in this country live lives of hopelessness, some living in a world of addiction, and others in severe poverty. Nicaragua is the poorest nation in Central America, a huge majority (80%) of its citizens live on less than $2 per day. These people are struggling through starvation and malnutrition. It isn’t uncommon for people to search through the dump or in garbage cans for food. On top of all of these problems, Nicaragua recently began a civil war, pushing these people into further fear and suffering. Our squad will be heading to Nicaragua to work in places of poverty and with those who suffer day by day.
