Fun Facts:~The name of the country is based off of a Spanish King, King Philip II.
~The national bird is known as the monkey-eater and is a massive eagle.
~There is a spot known as Jellyfish Lake that contains more than 13 million jellyfish.
~Cock Fighting (Rooster fights) is a traditional blood-sport and the country has hosted many“World Slasher Cups”
~Basketball is the most famous sport here, contrary to the previous fun fact.

The Philippines is full of so many different cultural backgrounds, commonly seen as a huge melting pot. A major portion of the population in the Philippines live in severe poverty, which is where a lot of help is needed. In a lot of these areas of poverty, people resort to human trafficking and prostitution as a way to make ends meet. This country has the fourth largest number of prostituted children in the world. There are an estimated 375,000 women and girls between the ages 15 and 20 stuck in sex slavery, some girls as young as 11 years old. It seems to be common knowledge that Southeast Asia is a haven for human trafficking, and that will be a large portion of the ministry that we as team will be helping to spread Christ’s love to. We will be working to help free people from this common form of slavery. Other forms of ministry will include teaching English, running children’s ministries, and just doing what we can to show the love of Christ to as many people as possible.
