Since being at home, the first question that I usually get is not, “How was the race?” but “I bet the last year was amazing Meyuna, what are you doing next?” This question used to be very frustrating to me and sometimes it stills bugs me because I felt that people wanted a detailed plan for the next year, hear that I had been applying to jobs and for me to communicate my vision, mission statement and my 10-year plan to them. I really felt bad when I could not give them the answer that they were looking for. I was screaming in my head, ” Hello, I have only been stateside for a couple of weeks, I am just learning to not throw toilet paper in the trashcan and that I can flush it down the toilet” ( Amen to American plumbing)!!
With so many successful people around me, I felt the pressure to rush to get a job and get back into the hustle and bustle of life. I began to get really anxious because nothing was happening and I that I should have a plan! There is a reason why the Lord tells us to ‘ NOT to worry about tomorrow” ( Matthew 6:34) “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
I know you have probably been where I am…..
Just said ” MAMA” ( as a baby). ” When are you going to say Daddy?”
Just graduated from high school. Its ” What college are you attending?”
Just join a new organization or church. ” Where are you going to serve?”
Just got engaged. ” When is the wedding?”
Just got married. ” When are yall having children?”
Just purchased a house. ” How are you going to decorate or when are you going to invite me over?”
Just got a new job. ” Are you looking to move up within the company or Yall hiring?
Just got off the mission field. “What is next?”
You can insert your own scenario within the above examples. I often wonder why are we so worried about what’s next and not enjoying and staying present in the now. I too have struggled with the above and have been guilty of asking the same questions to my family and friends and maybe some of you, who are reading this blog. I want to apologize to you if you have been a victim of this! I tend to wonder, why did Jesus specifically teach this as He was teaching on daily Christian living. Being a sovereign God, I am sure God knew thousands of years later, we as people would be so worried about what was next or the next day and less on trusting him!
Now let me clear the air. This is NOT communicating that we should not plan, cast vision, have your word for the year, build planners, etc. THIS IS NOT A PERMISSION Slip for you nor I to be LAZY! There is beauty in planning. If you are a planner with all your calendars. PLAN! Cast Vision. Write a mission statement. Continue to press forward and run your race! DO IT! GO! The foundation of all of this is working as the Lord has called you to! OBEDIENCE! Laziness is not obedience! ( unless it is your sabbath and I believe in the power of REST! )
What I am saying is, do not get so caught up in the next that you neglect what the Lord is doing now! It has everything to do with vision and what you are focused on. Do not force what you THINK others should be doing on them or what you think SHOULD be next for them. There is a fine line of force projection of what society says and on ACCOUNTABILITY!
Asking me what is next and not interested in my present or past is not accountability. Asking me how was the race, what did the Lord show me, and what steps I have taken in what God has called me to? ( that sits differently)
I want to challenge you like I have to challenge myself DAILY. Let’s not get so caught up in what is next, that we don’t enjoy the present. Not to get caught up in what’s next, that we have not sat still in order to hear the Lord for what is next (vision) or what he wants for you to do today ( daily obedience). The Lord is doing a new thing, can you not perceive it? ( Isaiah 43:19) I truly believe that we miss a lot of what God is doing because we are too focused on the ‘NEXT” that we miss the new thing God is doing in the NOW. In order to become aware of or conscious of (something); come to realize or understand- takes a lot of stillness and being present.
Maybe there is a coworker the Lord wants you to love on, but you are too busy worried about your next job that you miss what is needed.
It’s ultimately TRUSTING the Lord! Lord, I know that you have given me promises and a vision for my life and I trust you! So I will be obedient in the daily and watch the promises and vision come to life!
During PSL ( Project Search Light) a time where all the squads got back together after being off the field for a month and sat under amazing teaching and worship! One of our sessions was about being mission-minded! The key to being mission-minded is starting in the small, where you are, being obedient in the now. That’s it!
I believe in the small obedient steps of what God has called us to, that’s when everything will build and grow. You will be running and then what the Lord has for you NEXT will come. You will look up one day and the vision will come to life and everything that the Lord has for you.
So lets simultaneously keep in vision what the Lord has called us to while we obediently run our race through being present in the everyday! Let’s do more of holding people accountable and less projecting what we THINK they should be doing!
So with all of that being said. YES, I am moving.. Kind of! I have decided through prayer that I will be participating in a 5-month program called CGA ( Center for Global Action) in Gainsville, GA! So I will spend half the week in Gainsville and the weekends in Atlanta.
What is CGA: CGA is a 5-month program that was created to assimilate all that I have learned from life experience, the Race, and revelation of truth- to make it a part of my story. I will learn to spread my roots deep and wide, and solidify a strong foundation in scripture and truth. To become a person that bears good fruit, not only in the next 5 months but for the rest of my life.”
This will be my schedule for the next 5 months:
